🐾 LET’S TALK ABOUT WHY PUPPIES SHOULD STAY UNTIL AT LEAST 8 WEEKS! 🐾
I know how exciting it is to bring a new puppy home! ❤️ You’ve been waiting, watching them grow and counting down the days. But as exciting as it is, those extra two weeks really do matter!
Just because a puppy is eating on its own at 6 weeks doesn’t mean it’s ready to leave its mother and littermates.
🐶 WHY IS WAITING SO IMPORTANT?
🐾 Socialization: Puppies learn how to interact, communicate and establish boundaries with their siblings.
🐾 Bite inhibition: Playing with littermates helps puppies learn to control how hard they bite.
🐾 Emotional development: Those extra weeks help puppies build confidence and develop appropriate social behaviors.
🐾 Physical development: Puppies need time to fully wean, gain weight and become more independent.
🐾 Potty training: Those extra weeks give breeders more time to introduce a consistent potty routine, encourage puppies to use a designated potty area and begin developing good habits. They won’t be fully potty trained at 8 weeks, but an early foundation can make the transition to their new homes easier.
🐾 Health: Additional time allows for proper deworming, weight monitoring, veterinary examinations and age-appropriate vaccinations.
🚨 WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PUPPIES LEAVE TOO EARLY?
Early separation may increase the risk of anxiety, fearfulness, excessive biting and difficulty interacting with other dogs.
❤️ AND LET’S NOT FORGET OUR PUG NUGGETS!
Some pug puppies need even longer, especially those who are smaller or need extra time to develop. Staying until 10 weeks may be beneficial for certain puppies.
Eight weeks is the minimum, not a deadline!
We understand how excited new families are, and trust me, we’re just as excited for you! But waiting a little longer can make a meaningful difference in your puppy’s future.
❤️ Responsible breeding isn’t about getting puppies out the door. It’s about making sure they’re truly ready for the world.
