🏹🦌 KNOW BEFORE YOU GO 2026 ARCHERY SEASON
Archery-only whitetail deer season opens tomorrow!
📅 Archery Season: October 3 – November 6, 2026
A few important reminders for hunting on the NFGT:
🏹 Do not discharge archery equipment, fi****ms, air ri**es in a developed recreation area.
⚠️ Know where you can safely shoot and your surroundings at all times. Do not discharge a fi***rm, bow or other implement capable of causing injury or damage to a person or property.
🚙 Keep roads and gates clear. Never park in a way that blocks a gate, road or access needed by emergency personnel or other visitors.
⛺ If you are planning on camping in a Wildlife Management Area (WMA), you are restricted to the designated Hunter Camps. General forest is open to dispersed camping. Please be fire aware and extinguish your campfire completely before leaving the area. 🎯 Identify your target and what is beyond it before taking a shot. Remember, hunters share the forest with hikers, campers, horseback riders and other visitors.
🗺️ Know your location and forest boundaries. Carry a map and make sure you are on National Forest System lands before hunting.
🌲 Portable stands and blinds may remain in place for up to 72 hours and must be tagged with your contact information. After 72 hours, they must be removed from the entire forest for at least 24 hours before being used again.
🦺 Wear hunter orange. A total of 400 square inches of hunter orange, including a hat and vest, must be worn while hunting on the NFGT, except when hunting migratory game birds. Those accompanying hunters are also required to wear hunter orange- this applies to anytime there is a season open to hunting with a fi***rm.
🦌 During archery-only deer season, antlerless deer may be harvested with archery equipment on the general forest and in a WMA. For bucks, the inside spread must be 13 inches or greater or the deer must meet the state definition of a spike.
Bag limits and other hunting regulations vary by county, so always check current Texas Parks and Wildlife Department regulations.
Whether you’re heading out to hunt or simply enjoying your public lands this fall, remember that safety is everyone’s responsibility.
