The tomatoes are coming fast! I think these romas will be made into salsa and the rest will be for snacking or salads. Do you can tomatoes? What is your favorite way to preserve the summer harvest?

The kids excitedly ran inside with this seasons first handful of garden candy, aka Sungolds and these bountiful, tiny reds which name escapes me. They were gone as quickly as they showed up, but they are delicious! We can’t wait to have a steady stream of ’maters coming in!

There has been a lot happening on the homestead this week! We harvested huge cauliflower heads and found the first BIG tomatoes! Broccoli is about ready, too. The new chickens are being introduced to the flock and finally got to play outside. We are excited for all this summer has in store for us!

Part of our “Halfway” is acknowledging that, as much as we’d like to, we can’t do it all right away. Therefore, we try our best to source other items locally and support farmers who are doing what we can’t.

The kids and I picked roughly 15 gallons of strawberries this season! It’s a lot of work, but so worth it to have fresh tasting food all year long!

We put up strawberry lemonade concentrate, jam, syrup, berries for yogurt and even made some fruit leathers. In an effort to minimize waste, even the tops get used! I dried them and powdered them to add to smoothies, yogurt, oatmeal, and to make strawberry milk.

We are officially done with strawberries and anxiously awaiting blueberries to be ready.

As you might imagine, running a homestead is no inexpensive endeavor! Dustin works full-time and runs a separate business on the side just to make ends meet. We are hoping to put an end to that soon!

We have started growing microgreens! So far, we have grown radish, arugula, broccoli, mustard, and salad mix microgreens. They have all been a great success! We trialed them on the kids in salads and on sandwiches. Even Jude (the two year old!) eats them on avocado toast. They are delicious!

Microgreens are 40x more nutrient dense than their full grown counterparts. Each individual little green has the nutrients of an entire full grown plant, and you eat many at a time! They are fantastic in salads, atop roasted vegetables, even in smoothies and juice! The possibilities are truly endless.

1 ounce containers start at $4.50 or 2/$8. Local delivery is available for orders exceeding $20, or for an additional $5 fee. Please message the page for orders or more information.

It is our hope and prayer to be able to bring these amazing little powerhouse greens to many homes in our area! We can’t wait for you to try them!

Hi Friend! 👋
We are the Lewis family and are so happy you’re here!

We moved from the city to rural Ohio in 2020 to start our own little homestead and become self-sufficient. Our main goal is to honor God in all we do and trust that he will bless the work of our hands. We are about half way to self-sufficiency, hence the name!

We hope you will follow along and learn with us as we share our journey!
