Now it's time for an update on little Archie!

So, from what we've pieced together since this pipsqueak landed in our laps - the harness he came in as a stray wearing was waaaay undersized. 😞 Shelter workers had to cut it off because it was too small and grown into his hair to be pulled off over his head, like you can with a properly sized harness. He was likely wearing this same harness since he was a pup because there was no way it would have fit with his current adult size.

The smell was unreal. He had open wounds from the harness rubbing beneath both of his underarms and his chest/neck, and those are what attracted flies to him. His original finder mentioned that Archie didn't want to be picked up and didn't want to walk, which makes sense for how deep and painful these sores had to be. 😞

But, thankfully, between the finder taking him to the shelter for help, the shelter realizing there was a problem and flagging us, AND Dr. Haderer kindly working him in so late in the day, Archie was able to get help before the maggots did too much damage.

In the beginning of treatment, Archie was so painful that he would walk in circles to try to escape the discomfort of just moving his legs. 😭 He wasn't keen on being touched and would flinch away from his care team. He was NOT a happy boy and, honestly, who could blame him after all of that?

VCA has been taking great care of him, ensuring his pain is controlled and appropriate meds are on board. The wounds under his arms are healing up very well now but the one under his neck was a lot deeper, so it's just going to take time for his skin to knit back together. They're doing daily hydrotherapy to encourage healing and he's being well-loved by vet staff as he heals.

So, this is where Archie is right now. He's doing MUCH better but it's still going to take time for his body to be set back to rights. β™₯️
