Please see important comments from Chief Lynch regarding the Bristol Animal Shelter.
I would like to clarify misinformation that has recently been circulating regarding the Town's animal shelter.
The Police Department Administration has a meeting scheduled with the Friends Board of Directors on October 29, 2026, to continue our ongoing collaborative efforts and discuss the development of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This meeting is part of our commitment to maintaining a strong partnership and ensuring the continued success of shelter operations.
To be clear, there have been no discussions, plans, or considerations by the Police Department or Town officials to close the animal shelter. Any claims suggesting otherwise are simply false.
As part of our responsibility to provide the highest level of care for animals in the Town's custody, we are currently conducting an operational review of shelter functions involving Town staff assigned to the facility. This review is intended to evaluate and strengthen operations, ensure best practices are being followed, and support the long-term welfare of the animals entrusted to our care.
We appreciate the community's concern and passion for the shelter and its mission. It is important that residents receive accurate information, and I hope this statement helps dispel any misunderstandings. We remain committed to working collaboratively with our partners and continuing to provide quality care for the animals in our community.
