HOT WEATHER WALKING REMINDER!

Missouri heat is one thing… but that Missouri humidity? Whew.

High humidity makes it much harder for dogs to cool themselves, especially Shih Tzus and other flat-faced breeds.

Summer adventures are more fun when our pups stay safe and comfortable!
Before heading out with your furry best friend, remember:

💧 Bring water & take hydration breaks. Offer water before AND after walks, not just during.

🐾 Hot pavement can burn sensitive paws. Use booties to help prevent burning paws.

✋ Try the 5 Second Pavement Test
Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds. Too hot for you = too hot for paws.

🌿 Choose shaded grass whenever possible.
Encourage walking on shaded grass whenever possible.

🌅 Walk during cooler morning or evening hours
Best walking times: before 9am or after sunset

👀 Watch for signs of overheating like Excessive panting, Bright red gums, Vomiting, Staggering
Glazed eyes.

Shih Tzus can overheat quickly, so extra care goes a long way during warm weather.
