You might remember Shiner from Puppy Camp… although he’s looking a little less puppy these days.

Shiner is back with us for Board & Train, and from what I can tell, he’s grown into an overall sweet, friendly boy who has also officially entered his “I heard you, I just don’t really care” era. 😂

His family has been working hard with him, but adolescence has brought along a few new challenges. He knows quite a bit, but actually listening when he’d rather do something else? That’s another story.

A few of the big things we’ll be working on:
🐾 Better listening skills
🐾 More general calmness around the house
🐾 Settling instead of whining, wandering, begging, or getting into everything
🐾 A much more reliable recall, especially since he’s discovered that getting loose and going on his own adventures is apparently very exciting

Even during our first few minutes together, I got to see some of that busy adolescent brain at work. Why stand calmly when there are rocks to pick up, mulch to investigate, and a leash to chew on?

I’m excited to have this fun little guy back and help him bridge that gap between knowing what’s being asked and actually following through when real life is happening around him.

Your dog shouldn’t need to hear “stay” 15 times to actually stay. 👀

If you want your dog’s training to work in real life, practice it like real life.

Say “stay” once. Then move around. Talk to someone. Bend down to pick something up. Turn your back. Do the things you’ll actually be doing when you need your dog to hold that stay.

Because the goal isn’t:

“Stay… stay… stay… hi neighbor… stay… how are you… stay…” 😂

The goal is for your dog to understand: stay here until I tell you otherwise.

Stop spoon-feeding the command and start giving your dog the opportunity to actually understand it.

Meet Knox! 🐾

Knox is a sweet Golden Retriever puppy here to get a head start on becoming the best family dog he can be!

Like most puppies, he’s curious, playful, and still figuring out what’s expected of him. While he’s here, we’ll be working on building good habits early with things like kennel training, leash manners, engagement, household boundaries, and the foundations for future obedience.

At this age, it’s less about expecting perfection and more about giving him a solid foundation to grow from. I’m excited to have this little guy here!

Welcome back, Aspen! 🐾

After completing our puppy program, Aspen is back for some “big girl” training!

We’ll build on everything she learned while working on her habit of putting everything in her mouth, strengthening her “drop it,” and teaching this very enthusiastic greeter some polite manners when meeting people.

We’re so excited to have this sweet, zealous girl back! 💕

Meet Onyx!

Onyx is 1.5 yrs old. In true German Shepherd fashion, he's sweet and loves to work but struggles to know when it's time to relax.

Everything is exciting. His brain is always going. Pacing, whining, and struggling to settle. It's hard for him to truly relax, even when it's time to rest.

Over the next few weeks, we'll be helping Onyx develop an "off switch." We'll be focusing on calm, learning to settle, and building the self-control that a high-drive dog like himself needs.

The goal isn't to take away his personality or his drive. It's to teach him when it's time to work... and when it's okay to simply relax.

Can't wait to show you his progress!

Tripp 🐾

This little guy may be small, but he’s got some BIG opinions 😅 If there’s a noise, a dog, a person, or something happening that he thinks you should know about… trust me, you’ll hear about it.

Sweet, cuddly, and loves being with his people, but he can get overwhelmed and tends to handle those feelings with his voice. Barking has been his go-to solution for just about everything.

We’re focusing on building calm, confidence, and teaching him that he doesn’t need to comment on every little thing happening around him.

Same Tripp… just a little quieter and a little more confident 👏🏼

Gus 🐾

Super friendly, loves people, and honestly just a happy guy… but he’s got a lot of feelings 😅 Especially on leash when he sees other dogs, charging, barking, pulling, and completely checked out from his handler.

Not aggressive at heart just overwhelmed and doesn’t know how to handle it.

Right now we’re working on calm, controlled leash work, better communication, and teaching him how to think instead of react when he sees other dogs.

Chloe 🐾

This girl is sweet, eager, and ready to gooo… all the time 😅 She came in pulling on the leash, jumping, and struggling to settle, always looking for what’s next instead of being able to just be.

Not a bad dog at all, in fact very sweet! She just has a busy mind and no off switch.

Right now we’re working on slowing her down, creating better leash habits, and teaching her how to actually relax instead of living in constant motion.

Same dog… just learning how to turn it down 👏🏼

Bentley 🐾

One year old Great Pyrenees/Shepherd mix with a big personality and an even bigger opinion about the world 😅 He came in anxious when he can hear people but can’t see them, barking to control situations, pulling hard on walks, and always on the hunt for something to steal and make his own.

Sweet, curious, and honestly a fun dog… he just hasn’t known how to settle.

Right now we’re working on building calm, clear structure, and teaching him he doesn’t need to be “on” all the time. Slowing him down, creating better walk habits, and helping him exist in the home without feeling like he has to manage everything.

Same dog… just learning a new way to move through the world 👏🏼
