From the frustrated farrier's wife. Just like with any other animal on Earth equines need regular attention. If a horse's hooves are not trimmed regularly, they can wear or break unevenly, or not at all. This can lead to leg strain and deviation, as well as lameness. When a horse's hooves are overgrown, they have to walk on the balls of their feet, which can stretch their tendons. Unbalanced hooves can also affect a horse's movement, tendons, ligaments, and the internal workings of the hoof.

This does not include the behavior of a horse that hasn't been trimmed/handled in a year. If you haven't had your horse trimmed in a year or more please do not ask me to send my husband out to trim for you. I simply will not respond. I refuse to allow any extra abuse. He has a heart of gold and will bend over backwards for your horse but I'm the one that has to constantly worry about his health. It's not fair to him or your horse. Sometimes a kick happens which is normal. Long overdue horses put added stress on the farrier trying to fix all the issues so your horse can feel better. Thank you for your time.
