We are dedicated in promoting compasion, responsible pet ownership through community outreach, education and advocacy. The SPCA of Tennessee is a foster-based rescue whose mission it is to make Tennessee a better place for animals. We focus on pairing pets with the best homes made available through adopters like you! The SPCA of Tennessee also advocates for the welfare of animals who may be facing

abuse or neglect. Our rescue also emphasizes best practices for pets including spay/neutering to reduce the overpopulation of pets in Tennessee. We also encourage routine medical care including heartworm prevention. Adopters are also encouraged to invest in training and education to create a happy, loving and secure bond between pets and their forever families. Contact us for your pet needs today! Lucas is a good boy but full of energy and love .
We decided to send him to training in which he has almost completed with flying colors !!!

The mission of the SPCA of Tennessee Golden Hearts is to provide senior and medically fragile dogs with comfort, dignity, and unconditional love thought out the Golden Hearts.

Through compassionate foster homes, veterinary care, proper nutrition, pain management, and the generous support of our donors, we are committed to ensuring that every dog in our care has a soft place to rest, gentle hands to care for them, and the security of knowing they are cherished and loved.

We believe that age does not diminish the value of a life.

Our goal is not simply to add days to their lives, but to fill the days they have with love, comfort, happiness and dignity.

Virginia took a major step toward stronger protections for animals when it strengthened its laws against severe animal cruelty.

Under Virginia law, certain serious cases of animal cruelty can be charged as a Class 6 felony. In qualifying cases, offenders can face up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to $2,500.

The change became known as Tommie’s Law after a deeply disturbing case involving a dog named Tommie in Richmond. In 2019, Tommie was tied to a fence and set on fire. He suffered horrific injuries and later died. His case drew national attention and became a major part of the push for stronger animal cruelty laws in Virginia.

The law was designed to recognize that extreme cruelty should not be treated as nothing more than a minor offense. When someone intentionally causes severe suffering to an animal, there can be serious consequences.

For animal advocates, this matters because animals cannot report their abusers or ask for help. They depend on people to speak up when they are being hurt.

A stronger law does not undo the suffering an animal has already endured. It can, however, send a clear message that deliberately torturing or seriously harming an animal is not something society should simply overlook.

Animals are vulnerable to the choices humans make. Laws cannot prevent every act of cruelty, but strong penalties can help hold abusers accountable and give animals greater protection under the law.

Tommie’s story is a painful reminder of why these protections matter. No animal should have to suffer that kind of violence.
