It’s International Bat Night, so we thought we’d introduce you to one of our Egyptian fruit bats!

This species is naturally found across parts of Africa and the Middle East. Egyptian fruit bats are nocturnal and spend much of their active time at night searching for food. Their diet includes fruit, nectar, and other plant materials.

They also have an important job in the ecosystem. As they move from plant to plant while feeding, they can help pollinate flowers and spread seeds.

For our bat, though, tonight’s priority is much simpler: finishing this delicious piece of fruit.

For those of you who are still concerned about the recent questions surrounding the care of our animals, we wanted to share an update.

The USDA completed a routine inspection of Branson’s Wild World this week. We are pleased to report that the inspection found no non-compliant items. This was consistent with what we expected, as we have always been confident in the care and standards we provide for the animals in our care.

We truly appreciate everyone who has stood by us, as well as those who have respectfully reached out, asked questions, and allowed us to address their concerns. We understand that people care deeply about animals, and we do too.

Our animals are our priority. We love them, care for them every day, and take their health and well-being very seriously. We will always welcome respectful questions and conversations about the care they receive.

Summer may be coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to!

Branson’s Wild World is open to the public year-round, so there’s always time to come see your favorite animals and make some memories.

Our hours can vary throughout the year, so be sure to check our website for our most up-to-date hours before your visit. We can’t wait to see you!

We want to take a moment to address the concerns being shared about the care of our animals. We take any allegation regarding animal welfare very seriously because the health and well-being of every animal in our care is something we care deeply about.

It’s important to remember that what an animal looks like to us as humans does not always tell the full story. Lions are naturally adapted to warm climates, and research has documented their ability to tolerate significant temperature fluctuations. They regulate their body temperature through behaviors such as seeking shade, reducing activity, and panting. Research has also found that lions generally make relatively little use of water for cooling compared with many other species.

All of our animals have access to shade, water, and cooler indoor areas where they can choose to retreat from the outdoor conditions. As you can see in the video, two of our big cats are choosing to use their rooms. Chulo, the cat in question, has chosen not to use his room and instead is resting in a shaded portion of his habitat. Their behavior, comfort, and overall well-being are continuously monitored by our staff. As well as visits throughout the year from four different animal welfare agencies.

We encourage people to come visit, see our facilities for themselves, and form their own opinions based on what they observe. Our doors are open, and so are we to having a respectful conversation about the care of our animals.

“Excuse me, Mr. Weatherman… can you make the heat stop?”

If you’re visiting Branson’s Wild World and notice some of our animals aren’t outside, don’t worry! All of our animals have access to indoor enclosures where they can cool off and stay comfortable during the hottest parts of the day. They also have access to water inside their enclosures to help them stay hydrated throughout the day.

For the best chance of seeing everyone enjoying the outdoors, we recommend visiting earlier in the day, before the temperatures really start to climb!
