We want to say thank you to Kathy Hoffman, who came to our Board of Directors meeting today and showed us bumper stickers that she had made for transporters. Also, Kathy worked with the art teacher at Randall middle school where eighth graders were challenged with designing a T-shirt, using one of the 14 animals in our upcoming book call, I can save the planet. Look for an opportunity to get your vote in in the upcoming days. The winner design will go on the back of one of our T-shirts.

We got a call on an osprey and Carol Allen went out and rescued it. It is a juvenile that has come out of the nest just a few days too early and still cannot fly. It is a female, and you can tell that by the brown spots on her chest. The Osprey we have from earlier in the week that was hanging by her foot is happy to have company. They both shared a big mullet today. .

A mama and her four babies were returned home after a long recovery from being attacked by a dog. They were not released in the dog park where they were picked up, but they were released in that same general area where they were found. We wish you good luck out there all you little buddies I would say we're gonna miss you but…… After biting Suzy, we knew it was time for you to go! Bye mama, you did such a good job. I'm glad you finally finally are well. Maria Teague Brent you for taking them back home tonight.

A Bald Eagles remarkable resilience was put to the test on Wednesday, but thanks to a heroic rescue operation, it is now on the path to recovery. Good Samaritans spotted the bird struggling in Frost Proof's Lake Reedy and sprang into action, skillfully coaxing it to safety using a boat. Ricky played a crucial role in the effort, transporting the bird to Bartow where a dedicated team, including Cathy & Lloyd, and Carol Allen ensured its swift transfer to us. Our collaborative network enables seamless coordination of care across counties, giving wildlife a second chance. Upon examination, the bird showed signs of a brutal attack, with serious injuries to its wing and facial area, though the circumstances remain unclear what caused them. We commend the thorough examination and surgery conducted by the Palm Harbor Animal and Bird Medical Center. The bird is receiving top-notch care with us, undergoing treatment and scheduled for a follow-up examination. Despite the daunting journey, we are hopeful about its prospects, and with continued progress, it will soon take to the skies after a little physical therapy, i.e. flight conditioning in our flight cage before returning to its natural habitat. Updates will follow, and those interested in supporting its care can find more information in the link provided below. .

Our flock (parliament)of screech owls from this baby season are in flight training and are beginning live prey testing (we use crickets in case you're wondering). It will not be long now before the nine of them will be ready to embark upon the wild world. They will return back to the areas where they were picked up. They do wear leg bands that tell us who they are specifically. But it's a very exciting time if you're a baby screech owl. 🦉 Very scary time as well for those of us who understand the dangers they face. It won't be long now before you'll see more releases of screech owls. We just released three last week. .

We got baby Birds and Opossoms and transferred them today. We are not staffed for multiple song bird babies. They're very labor intensive however we will take them, stabilize them, and get them where they need to go. Thank you, Susie for making the drive today. We thank the good Samaritan in Lakeland who saved 8 baby Opossoms when they found the mom deceased. She rushed them to Vanessa who got them ready to travel with a warmie. Loretta picked them up from Vanessa and brought them to us. We rewarmed their warmie and quickly got them on the road with Mike and Susan and transferred them to our Rehab partner Penny that is great at tube feeding Opossoms!

The baby crane made it safely today to creature safe place thanks to Suzy Buchanan and Heather. The babies were picked up here in Brandon. Each Transporter stopped once halfway along their way and fed the baby. They met in Lake Wales. There also was a lady with woodpeckers who met them in Lake Wales. Heather continued onto Winnie Burns where she spent this afternoon Understanding why Winnie is one of our Rehab partners! Thank you, Suzy and Heather for being our wildlife heroes today and to creature safe place and Winnie Burns for taking the baby. .

A little armadillo was brought into Blue Pearl pet Hospital in Brandon last month. It was still a little too small to be on its own. It has been growing up, and has learned how to forage well. Tonight the little armadillo went free. We thank Carol Allen for scoping out a good release point and letting him go. If you ever take a wild animal into a veterinary Hospital and leave it, please make sure to put the address where it came from so it can go back home. We did the best we knew how in picking the right habitat where we knew there were also other armadillos in the area. Good luck, out there in the wild world, little buddy. .

Although we have not been answering our phone animals keep finding their way to us! We got urgent text from Blue Pearl. They had a hatchling Sandhill crane. We still don't have the circumstances surrounding how it ended up there. We also picked up two baby birds that were left at Blue Pearl for three days by another Rescue group. Thank you Julio for making a late night run to Blue Pearl. These birds were being fed incorrectly so we went ahead and took them and we will move them to someone who will take proper care of them tomorrow. Kim Kalishek and DeAnna rescued an adult sandhill crane tonight with this big washer thing on it's beak. They were able to release the bird right back in the field. Also got a completely emaciated juvenile red shouldered hawk that was refused by the vets Office. They told them it was a fledgling and put it back. They did not think that was good advice so they brought it here after texting us. I am not optimistic this bird will survive. It is so skinny but we darn sure are trying.
