🐴 Kenwood Horse of the Week: JD 💛

Basics:
• Age: 22
• Breed: Quarter Horse
• Color: Buckskin
• Owner: Kenwood Crew
• Time at Kenwood: ~4 years

Personality Snapshot:
JD is our resident pretty boy—and he knows it. With his buckskin coat and classic look, he regularly gets compared to Spirit by the little kids (and honestly… they’re not wrong).

His name? Well… that’s a story. When we bought him, we saw a brand that looked like “JD,” so the name stuck. A couple days later we realized it actually said “JB”… but by then, JD he was and JD he remains.

Under Saddle:
JD is as steady and dependable as they come. He’s safe for just about anyone, making him a go-to lesson horse for riders of all levels. He’ll hit the trails without a fuss and will even haul to a playday and run patterns when asked.

Now, is he breaking speed records? No.
But will he give you the same honest, consistent run every time? Absolutely.

He’s also been known to clean up pretty nicely in English tack—turns out the pretty boy can do both.

Fun Fact:
JD is Lt. Dan’s best friend… according to Lt. Dan.
JD hangs out with him, but doesn’t take the relationship nearly as seriously.

Management Notes:
Great for lessons.
Great on the trail.
Great backup horse… to the backup horse.

Best Known For:
Looking like a movie star and acting like your reliable best friend.

🐴 Kenwood Horse of the Week: Lt. Dan 🇺🇸

Basics:
• Age: ~20
• Breed: Quarter Horse
• Color: Sorrel
• Owner: Kenwood Crew
• Time at Kenwood: Sale barn find turned resident character

Personality Snapshot:
Named during our Forrest Gump phase, Lt. Dan came to us from a sale barn and quickly established himself as the barn’s official “cantankerous old man.” He’s got opinions, he’s sticking to them, and he’s not afraid to share.

Under Saddle:
Arena work? Absolutely not.
Lt. Dan has made it very clear he did not sign up for circles, patterns, or anything resembling effort in an arena setting. He will simply… not go.

Now put him on a trail, and it’s a different story. He’ll walk all day long without complaint—just don’t expect speed. His preferred gait is slow and steady, and he sees no reason to rush it.

Fun Fact:
Lt. Dan strongly believes in personal space. Horses riding next to him will be reminded (with pinned ears and the occasional air snap) to kindly back off. It’s more comedy than conflict.

Management Notes:
Has never bucked. Never reared. Just selectively participates.
Deeply devoted to his pasture mate JD—if JD isn’t turned out, Lt. Dan will stand at the gate and wait until his buddy joins him.

Best Known For:
Doing exactly what he wants… and somehow still being a barn favorite.
