🚨 5 Signs Your Senior Pet Might Be Due for a Checkup

Because “he’s just getting old” is not technically a diagnosis. 😂

🐾 1. The water bowl suddenly needs a full-time refill person. Drinking or peeing more than usual? We want to know.

🐾 2. The scale is doing something suspicious.
Losing weight while eating normally—or gaining weight without an obvious reason—is worth checking out.

🐾 3. Getting off the couch now requires a three-point turn and a motivational speech.
Slowing down, stiffness, limping, or hesitating on stairs can mean arthritis or pain.

🐾 4. That breath could knock a buzzard off a gut wagon.
We’re in Mississippi. We can say it. 😂
Bad breath, dropping food, chewing differently, or suddenly preferring soft food can mean dental disease.

🐾 5. Your pet has started acting…a little weird. 👀
Pacing at night, staring at walls, getting confused, hiding, becoming clingy, or suddenly getting grumpy can all be worth investigating.

❤️ Getting older is normal. Feeling lousy isn’t.

Senior wellness exams and routine lab work can catch problems before your pet makes it painfully obvious that something is wrong.

So if your gray-faced best friend hasn’t been checked lately…

Milo says…..Another grueling shift at the vet clinic. 😩

The hours are long.
The naps are short.
The treat compensation package is inadequate.

Please keep our hardest-working employee in your thoughts during this difficult time. 😂🐾

POV: Your vet says, “He needs to wear the cone for 10 days.”

Your dog: I’d rather die.
You: He hates it.
Us: Yes. That’s… kind of the point. 😂

The Cone of Shame: ruining lives, saving incisions. 🐾

Friendly reminder and some fun facts about why your pets need regular dental cleanings!

✨High Prevalence of Disease✨
-Early onset: Most dogs develop plaque and tartar buildup rapidly, with dental disease affecting most canines by age three.
-Hidden pain: Dogs rarely stop eating when they have a toothache, meaning dental pain often goes unnoticed without professional checks.

✨Preventing Health Complications✨
-Stops organ damage: Cleaning removes bacteria before it enters the bloodstream and harms the heart, liver, and kidneys.
-Saves teeth: Professional scaling removes hard tartar below the gumline where regular home chewing cannot reach.
Ends chronic inflammation: Treating gum swelling (gingivitis) stops ongoing tissue and bone destruction in the jaw.

If you think your pet is in need of a cleaning, give us a call for a dental exam! 🦷🐾

Got a chunky monkey at home? 🐶😂

Cutting calories doesn’t mean cutting out ALL the treats! There are plenty of things you probably already have in the fridge that make great lower-calorie snacks.

🥒 Cucumbers
🫛 Green beans
🥕 Carrots
🫐 Blueberries
🍓 Strawberries
🍉 Seedless watermelon
🍎 Apple slices — no seeds or core
🎃 Plain pumpkin
🥦 Broccoli
🧊 And for the dogs who aren’t picky… ice cubes 😂

Easy trick: Save a little of their regular kibble from breakfast and use it as treats throughout the day. They still think they’re getting something special, but you aren’t sneaking in a bunch of extra calories. 🙌

And watch those “just one little bite” handouts! One from Mom + one from Dad + one from the kids can add up FAST. 👀

❤️ Treats are totally fine — just keep them treats, not a second dinner.

What’s your dog’s favorite “people food” snack? 🐾

As always, every dog is different. Check with your veterinarian before changing treats if your pup has diabetes, pancreatitis, kidney disease, food allergies or other dietary restrictions.

🐾 It’s International Check the Chip Day August 15 - TOMORROW ! 🐾

A microchip is one of the best ways to help a lost pet find their way home — but only if the information connected to it is correct!

Today is the perfect reminder to:
🐶 Have your pet’s microchip scanned to make sure it’s working
📱 Check that your phone number and address are current
🔎 Make sure you know which company your pet’s chip is registered with
❤️ Add an alternate contact if possible

Moved? Changed phone numbers? Adopted a pet that was already chipped? Take a few minutes today to update that information.

A tiny chip can make a BIG difference when a pet goes missing. 🐾🏡
