While we take competition seriously at BARK, our members are also serious about giving back to and working with the community.
One way our members do this is through pet therapy programs such as Paws to Read at the Madison Public Library where board member Wendell and his Sheltie Rowdy regularly participate. But, for the summer, Wendell was invited to do a “Rowdy and Friends” agility demo.
Clubs members Therese Hanna and Hanna Freeman with their dogs west highland white terrier Abbey, and mini poodle Gamble also participated in the demo. The group presented to a crowd of 138 children and parents.
The demo included information on:
- An introduction of each dog and handler team.
- how the sport of agility works
- introduction to agility contact obstacles
- basic jumping skills
- basic training methods,
- how to safely meet and pet a dog.
- Q&A plus time to visit with and pet the dogs.
Thank you to the library staff for allowing us to share our love of this sport. It was so much fun!
