Northern Lakes Rescue Northern Lakes Rescue is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Foster based Organization that focuses on saving dogs in need.

Northern Lakes Rescue is a foster based rescue that will save dogs everywhere as long as we have a foster that will provide a loving home until their forever home is found. Prior to adoption all animals will be spayed/neutered and up to date on age appropriate vaccines.

Meet Finn — 25 pounds of fetch, zoomies, wrestling and absolutely high levels of enthusiasm.

This 1-year-old herding mix is basically a fun-sized athlete with a turbo button. He LOVES other dogs, lives for a good game of fetch, and would probably crush Agility, Fast CAT or Flyball.

A few things to know:
🐾 House + crate trained
🐾 Loves playful dog friends
🐾 Best with older kids
🐾 High prey drive
🐾 Needs calm introductions with new people
🐾 Quieter home/country life = his dream

Finn is goofy, loyal, athletic, a little mouthy in true herding-dog fashion, and ready to find someone who can keep up.

Be honest. You are NOT mailing that Menards rebate in. It’s living in your cup holder. Your junk drawer. Your purse. Somewhere under a fossilized french fry.

Meanwhile, we will HAPPILY mail it in. And trust us… we will also gladly go shopping.

How to get us your receipts:
Bring them to the rescue and put them in the lockbox in the entryway.
Bring them to an adoption event.
Mail them to us.
Know an NLR volunteer personally? Hand it over. Trust me. They’ll take it.

To you, that receipt might be worth $3.81.
To us, that’s a dog toy.

To a dog who may have never had a toy of their own before? That $3.81 can be a pretty big deal. ❤️

So stop pretending you’re going to mail that rebate.

Meet (Tigress) Curry, a 1½-year-old, 52-lb German Shepherd/Lab mix with a gorgeous brindle coat, enough enthusiasm for three dogs, and absolutely zero understanding of the phrase “personal space.”

Curry is a professional best friend. She loves adults, kids, cats, and other dogs of all shapes and sizes. In fact, she would LOVE a home with another playful dog because apparently human companionship is great, but having a full-time wrestling partner is even better.

She’s also got some serious extracurriculars:
- 🎾 Plays fetch and actually brings the ball back
- 🌊 Loves swimming and retrieving toys from the water
- 🏡 Potty trained
- 🐾 Kennel trained
- 💋 Gives approximately 847 kisses per greeting
- 🧸 Loves having toys around and does a great job entertaining herself
- ❤️ Basically believes everyone she meets is her new best friend

Curry would thrive with an active family, some room to run, and/or dog friends who appreciates a good game of chase.

Now, Curry does have one tiny résumé blemish: she and chickens have irreconcilable differences. 🐔😬 Squirrels, deer, and turkeys are also VERY exciting.

Otherwise, she’s a happy, affectionate, goofy girl who wants to play hard, love harder, and preferably spend summer afternoons launching herself into a lake after a toy.

If your house could use 52 pounds of brindle chaos, wet-dog lake days, fetch marathons, unsolicited kisses, and a built-in best friend, Curry is ready to meet you. 💛🐾

TODAY’S THE DAY! 🐾🚐
Come hang out with us at Kelly’s Service and help us PACK THE RESCUE RIDE for the dogs of Northern Lakes Rescue!

We’ll have adoptable dogs there ready to meet you, coloring for the kids, and our transport van ready to be filled with supplies our foster pups use every single day.

We’d love donations of:

👉 Blankets

👉 Other dog supplies
🥩Freezer-burnt meat!

Yes — freezer-burnt meat. 😂 If it’s been sitting in the bottom of your freezer forever and you’re not going to use it, our dogs absolutely can. We’ll have coolers in the van ready to take it off your hands!

Come meet the dogs, color a picture, drop off a donation, and help us fill that van. Even one toy, one leash, one blanket, or one package of meat makes a difference.

Update: he is headed to MN Boxer Rescue!
We need a foster or foster-to-adopt family for this boy.

While we need to share Simba’s story so you understand how we got here, we do not want you to fall in love with his story.

We do not want his story to define him.

He was found emaciated, wounded and surviving on his own in rural Minnesota. His body tells us that he has survived something difficult.

However, his wounds and his story cannot tell us who he was before, who he truly is today, or who he will become once he has had the time and safety to heal.

What we know so far: he bonds quickly with people, seeks affection, and has been curious but appropriate with the cat in his temporary home. (The cat does not like him so stays away.)

There are still unknowns.

He has shown some protective behavior around the people he has bonded with, and there was an interaction with the resident dog that led his caregivers to keep the dogs safely separated.

What does that mean long-term?
We don’t know yet.

Maybe he is overwhelmed. Maybe he is protective of the people who now represent safety. Maybe some of this changes as he decompresses. Maybe it doesn’t.

That is why we need the right foster or foster-to-adopt family, not just the first person whose heart breaks for his story.

Ideally, we would love an experienced home that can safely separate animals, give him time to decompress, and take introductions very slowly if and when appropriate.

Most importantly, he needs someone who will not give up on him when things aren’t perfect.

He needs time to heal.
Time to feel safe.
Time to show us who he actually is.

Please don’t say yes because you feel sorry for what he survived.

Say yes because you are willing to meet him where he is and help him move forward at his own pace.

He doesn’t need someone to rescue his past. He needs a foster or foster-to-adopt family willing to help him write his next chapter.

Boe knows play.
Boe knows kids.

Boe knows loyalty.
And Boe knows he likes to herd…cats. 😬

At 6 years old, this handsome cattle dog is potty trained, crate trained, smart, playful, kid friendly, dog friendly, and ready to be somebody’s loyal sidekick.
He can keep up when it’s time for an adventure, then take his recovery program VERY seriously afterward.

What Boe doesn’t know?
Why he’s still waiting for a family of his own. ❤️

So maybe the question isn’t, “What does Boe know?”

🚨 PLEASE STOP USING RAT POISON. 🚨
As temperatures drop, rodents start looking for warm places to hide — which means more poison starts getting put out.

The problem? Poison doesn’t always stay where you put it.

A mouse or rat can eat bait, leave the property, and end up in someone else’s yard. Then a dog, cat, owl, hawk, or other animal eats it.

Pets can also be exposed by getting into bait directly or investigating contaminated areas, including rodent carcasses, vomit, or droppings.

Rodenticide poisoning can be horrific — internal bleeding, seizures, kidney failure, neurological damage, collapse, and death.

Sometimes symptoms don’t appear for DAYS.

Please remember: Just because YOU don’t use rat poison does not mean your pets are safe.
Your neighbor might.
Your landlord might.
A nearby business might.
A family member might.

And that poisoned mouse can still end up in your yard.

PLEASE talk to your friends, family, neighbors, and anyone around your pets about safer rodent-control options.

Rat poison doesn’t always stop with the rat. ❤️🐾
