We've had some frustration this past week over not having wet cat food available and handing out smaller bags of cat kibble.

Our cat food supply is VERY limited right now. We're nearly out of wet food, and the dry food bags may be smaller than what you're used to receiving.

We've been fortunate to have enough food to serve the same families twice a month, all year long, without turning people away. But that doesn't mean it will always be that way.

When donations slow down, we have to adjust. We can't give away what we don't have, and there may be times when we have to turn people away until supplies improve. That's the reality of running a pantry that depends on donations.

We also have the corn bug situation we're working to get under control. At this time, we do not plan on bringing in additional food or supplies until we know these bugs are gone.

And just a reminder of two things you agreed to when you enrolled in our program:

🐾 Participation is limited to six months. After six months, you must reapply for pet food assistance. Considering no one has had to do this yet, we've been fortunate to have enough food to continue helping everyone without enforcing this limit.

🐾 The food we provide is supplementary. It is not intended to cover an entire month's worth of food or meet every pet's specific dietary needs.

We understand that everyone has different needs, and we know how important it is to keep food in your pets' bowls. That's why we do what we do.

We will always do our best with what we have, but we also need everyone to understand that free pet food assistance comes with limitations. Smaller bags, limited choices, and temporary shortages are sometimes part of that reality.

Just to reiterate, please check the dog food you received last night from Huckleberry’s Snack Shack.

It is possible that some of the food is infested with what we believe may be grain weevils or pantry bugs. If you see any small, hard black bugs in your dog food, please throw the food away immediately, outside your home. These pests can spread to other food items in your pantry.

Over the last six weeks, we’ve received hundreds of pounds of dog food from three different locations. Unfortunately, there is no way for us to know exactly which bags may be affected.

We are already running low on both canned and bagged cat food, and at this point, I’m not sure what our dog food inventory will look like next week as we work through this situation.

Our priority is making sure the food we provide is safe for the pets and families we serve, and we appreciate your understanding as we work through this.

We’ve noticed some small, hard black bugs (often attracted to grain or corn fillers) crawling around our pantry, and we want to give everyone a heads-up.

Please check your bags of dog food. If you notice any black bugs, please throw the food away outside your home. These pests can spread to other food items in your pantry.

We often receive open bags of donated pet food, and we do our best to keep everything fresh and properly rotated. When donations come in quickly, it can be difficult to keep up with inventory.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be working through our current stock, cleaning, and inspecting everything to make sure our food supply is clean and pest-free.

If you need dog food next week, please come by as usual.

We have dog food that needs to find its way into bowls before the colder weather moves in! Join us this evening to pick up free dog food. This is for non-enrolled pet parents. If you are enrolled into out pet food assistance program, please come during our regular Monday hours.

📢 A few things to keep in mind:
🐶 Food is available while supplies last. We’ll do our best to help as many families as possible.
🐶 No special requests for brands. You’ll be offered what we have available. Take it or leave it.
🐶 Only ONE person per household may receive donations.
🐶 Only TWO people are allowed inside the pet pantry at a time.
🐶 No restrictions.

Please respect these guidelines so we can give everyone a fair chance to take home food for their dogs.

I almost let National Feral Cat Day slip by without recognizing the incredible people who give so much goodness to the animals who need it most.

We have an entire community of people working hard to humanely manage outdoor cat populations. Trapping cats, transporting them to appointments, paying for surgeries, providing daily food and making sure they have a chance at a healthier life.

If you’re feeding stray or feral cats, please consider it part of your responsibility to get them spayed or neutered. Caring for them means more than keeping them fed. It means helping prevent more kittens from being born outside and facing the same uncertain future.

Paws For A Cause Vet Care offers spay/neuter surgeries for just $65, making this important service more accessible to those trying to help.

So tonight, please remember to be kind to stray and feral cats. And be kind to the people caring for them.

This is a gentle reminder for Monday evenings at the pet food pantry.

Please make sure someone accompanies you to the pet food pantry if you are not able to carry the items we provide.

There may be Monday evenings when we do not have volunteers to help carry items out for you.

It's best to bring someone along to help you each time you visit. We will not be carrying items for you.
