🐄 We had a BIG day with a little calf at Westbay today! 🤍

Our crew traded paws for HOOVES as we welcomed a baby calf for an exploratory surgery, and it gave us the perfect opportunity to introduce the veterinarian behind today’s procedure!

🐄 MEET DR. TIM DELVALLE 🩺

If you’ve visited Westbay on a Friday, you may have already met one of our relief veterinarians, Dr. Tim DelValle — but you might not know the story behind him!

Dr. Tim is a 2017 graduate of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine.

He grew up in a small town in central Illinois and knew as early as high school that he was drawn to rural mixed-animal medicine.

He went on to study Animal Sciences at the University of Illinois before heading to veterinary school at Missouri.

Beyond his experience, we really just want our community to know the human behind the white coat. Dr. Tim is incredibly kind, humble, calm and such a joy to work alongside.

He brings a wealth of knowledge to Westbay without ever making a big deal about it, and we feel very lucky to have him caring for our patients on Fridays.

From cats and dogs to cattle, it’s pretty cool to see where a love for veterinary medicine can take you. 🐕🐈🐄

We spend our days loving on your dogs, so we thought it was only fair to introduce you to the ones waiting for us at home — the four-legged family members who made so many of us fall in love with veterinary medicine in the first place.

Looks like the word is officially out… Dr. Bystrom is at Westbay 😂🐾

Seeing how many familiar faces have found their way to Westbay has been pretty incredible.

Dr. Bystrom grew up watching his dad care for animals and families in this community for decades, and now he gets to carry on that legacy in the same community that helped shape him.

There’s something really special about generations of families trusting generations of veterinarians with the pets they love most.

And we couldn’t be more grateful to have Dr. Murphy right by his side.

Two doctors who genuinely care about their patients, their people, their team, and the community they serve.

Westbay has been part of Bradenton since 1993, and it feels pretty exciting to honor everything that came before us while building this next chapter together.

Look at handsome Cooper! 😍

Cooper is a Golden Retriever who came in for an outline trim with our groomer, Leah.

Not every pup needs a full haircut! An outline trim keeps their natural coat and shape while tidying up the areas that tend to get long or unruly, like the chest, belly, legs, feet, feathering, and sanitary areas. It’s a great option for breeds like Goldens who just need a good clean-up without taking away their beautiful natural coat. 🐶✨

At Westbay, we offer:

🛁 Baths — including ear cleaning, nail trim & a**l gland expression

✂️ Outline Trims — bath + a tidy-up of the coat while maintaining its natural length and shape

🐕 Full Grooms — bath + full haircut customized to your pup’s coat and needs

Grooming prices are based on your pet’s weight, coat length, and grooming needs.

🐾 Meet Buster! 🖤

And his big brother boomer peeping in the back!

This handsome little Black Lab is the newest addition to one of our longtime Westbay families, and he stopped in to begin his puppy vaccine series! 💉🐶 We love getting to care for the next generation of pets in families we’ve known for years.

So why do puppies need a series of vaccines instead of just one?

Here’s a little Puppy Vaccines 101 👇

Puppies receive some temporary protection from their mom, called maternal antibodies. As those antibodies begin to fade, puppies become more vulnerable to serious illnesses.

Because we can’t know exactly when that protection will wear off for each puppy, vaccines are given in a series to help build reliable immunity.

🩺 A typical puppy vaccine schedule:

• Vaccines generally begin around 6–8 weeks of age
• Core combination vaccines are repeated every 3–4 weeks
• The series continues until puppies are at least 16 weeks old
• Rabies is given according to age and Florida requirements
• Other vaccines, such as Bordetella or Leptospirosis, Influenza, & Lyme may be recommended depending on your puppy’s lifestyle and risk factors

Those early puppy visits are also a great time for physical exams, parasite & heart worm prevention, nutrition discussions, spay/neuter info and all the questions that come with raising a new little family member. ❤️

Every puppy is different, so your veterinarian will create a vaccine and prevention plan based on age, health, lifestyle, and exposure risk.
