Long overdue introduction!!

Everyone meet Kylan! Kylan Elmes
Kylan is in her 4th year at MSU studying Equine Science. She is completing her college internship requirements here at RCR and we are absolutely thrilled to have her.

Kylan brings a great mix of her gentle nature, confidence, and eagerness to learn to everything she does. She shows a love for each horses individuality and finds all their best qualities to help them shine. She is passionate about understanding and improving the biomechanics of the horse, taking their breed and unique build into consideration. She likes working with all breeds but seems to have a particular love for anything that has a little haflinger or small draft in them.

It’s been so fun to have Kylan on board, she has taken everything in stride and embraced every challenge with grace and enthusiasm. I’m looking forward to the rest of her internship and beyond and watching her develop into the amazing young trainer she will be.

Throw a word of encouragement her way in the comments and give her a nice warm welcome!

I wanted to share some highlights from our first ever in person ILHA freestyle.

It was so fun to compete, get and give encouragement, and see the hard work of all the competitors shine.

My wheels are turning and creativity is flowing so I hope to be back next year.

Thank you to Intl Liberty Horse Association and Double Dan Horsemanship for the opportunity to compete and for selecting me for the invitational

And thanks to Caitie Holtzman for the support and help through the process

Congratulations to all the competitors and a huge congrats to my friend Hannah Catalino on her big win!!

So much to share from my very first in-person liberty competition at the ILHA Invitational Freestyle! ❤️

More stories and photos to come, but for now, I just want to say how incredibly proud I am of my horses and the heart and effort they gave me.

After some tough luck in the compulsory class, we came back with a freestyle that earned us 6th place!

I learned so much, made some incredible memories, and already can’t wait to come back and do it all again!

And a huge congratulations to my friend Hannah Catalino on her very well-deserved 1st place finish! 🏆❤️

Day two of the Liberty Festival is here!

Yesterday, we recorded two incredible conversations with Ryan Rose and David Lichman, exploring the challenges behind liberty and what our horses are really communicating.

This morning, Cory Furlong of RCR Horsemanship joins host Cinelle Claassens for Liberty for Real Life. They’ll discuss how the liberty mentality can influence everyday handling, ridden work, and the relationship we build with our horses.

Join us live today at 9:30 AM at the Liberty Festival!

Twelve years ago, a 12-year-old girl from Iowa reached out to me online because she wanted help with her pony.

She wanted to teach tricks, play at liberty, and learn everything she could. She was young, eager, and clearly passionate about horses, and of course I wanted to encourage that.

Neither of us could have known then that one little message would turn into a friendship spanning more than a decade.

Over the last 12 years, we’ve stayed in touch from over a thousand miles apart. We’ve cheered each other on, talked through highs and lows, shared horse stories, and watched life change in a hundred different ways.

But somehow, through all of those years, we had never actually met in person.

On our way to Kentucky, our route happened to take us almost directly past her place in Iowa. She graciously opened her barn to us, giving my horses a place to rest while we all recovered from two long days on the road.

And after 12 years of knowing each other through a screen, we finally got to hug in real life.

We talked horses, shared stories, laughed about how long this moment had been coming, and of course spent some time playing with some pretty cool horses.

There’s something really special about finally standing face to face with someone who has been a part of your life for so many years, especially when it all started with something as simple as a kid reaching out because she loved horses and wanted to learn.

These photos are 12 years in the making.

And I think that makes them pretty darn special. ❤️
