📸Just looking through the camera roll to see the most adorable cutie patootie Poppy again!✨

Sweet Poppy was seen for treatment of base narrow mandibular canine teeth. Base narrow, or linguoverted mandibular canine teeth, occlude or press into the roof of the mouth and cause long term damage to the hard palate. The best treatment option for Poppy was to reduce the height of the mandibular canines, which eliminates the adverse contact, followed by placement of a pulp dressing and restoration. This procedure is called crown reduction and vital pulp therapy and allows Poppy to be able to close her mouth in a comfortable manner.

As much as we loved having her with us we are even happier she’s back to living her best life without oral pain!✨

“What’s the matter⁉️” “Why don’t you want your favorite snack❓”……. Just like when we break a tooth or have a cavity oral pain can significantly impact our furry friends more than we ever realize.

“You okay⁉️” “What’s wrong❓” May be our first thoughts when we notice our friends acting sad/lethargic in front of us. Initially we may not even associate it as pain until more clear signs begin to show themselves. Even then oral pain to trick us by giving vague hints to lead us in a completely different direction.

Some signs may include:
🦷 hesitancy to eat/ or not eating at all
🦷 lack of interest in picking up toys or avoiding games like fetch/tug
🦷 avoiding face pets (even by their favorite person)

Oral pain is an important reason to visit your local veterinarian before trying to treat at home to avoid only treating symptoms rather than the cause. If there is suspicion of oral pain it is never wrong to schedule with your veterinarian dentist first for evaluation.

Oral pain can have several causes that affect our four legged friends. From disease to traumatic injury there is no shortage of creative ways to end up in the dentist office. Once diagnosed the dental team will design a plan that works best for furry friend whether is be starting with imaging, medication, extraction or endodontics. Additionally they will be able to provide insight on the best care at home to keep them feeling their best long term.

🐾Meet Dr. Webb!🩺

Dr. Jesse Webb was raised on the Gulf Coast of Florida, where he developed a deep love and concern for the natural world, which inspired an eventual path to veterinary medicine. He is a 2009 graduate of St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine and has worked as a general practitioner in Alaska, Great Falls, MT, and Colorado Springs as well as a clinical skills instructor at Apex College of Veterinary Technology in Co. Springs.

Although he enjoyed most aspects of the hands-on practice of veterinary medicine, he took a special interest in ultrasonography, earning hard-won practical knowledge to provide this service at a general practice level for patients who would otherwise not be able to have this valuable diagnostic performed. In general, Dr. Webb strived to provide flexible, broad spectrum care and took pride in an ability to meet his clients where their budgets and individual expectations met for the best care for their companion animals whether fury, scaly, or feathered.

Happily married to Dr. Guillory, he has taken a supportive role in her pursuit to manage
Montana Pet Dentistry and Oral Surgery. One of the things Dr. Webb appreciated most during his time as a veterinarian was detailed and inclusive client communication and is excited to help in that regard any time that a primary care perspective can bridge the gap. Here at Montana Pet Dentistry he has taken on responsibilities related to anesthesia, patient care, client communication, staff training, and any other task that may contribute to the success of the practice, its patients, clients and staff members.

Dr. Webb is also a part time luthier, building custom guitars under the name Wildflower Guitars and is always excited to meet another guitar enthusiast. Ask him about his guitars, he will be more than happy to show off photos and discuss a custom build!

🦷Meet Our Dental Specialist, Dr. Guillory!🦷

Dr. Melissa Guillory is a Louisiana native and a graduate of the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island, Canada. She has worked in primary veterinary care in Juneau, Alaska, as well as Great Falls, Montana before focusing on feline medicine in Colorado. A love for felines triggered an additional passion for dentistry and oral surgery. She is a board-certified veterinary dentist® and a diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. She is passionate about providing optimal oral health for all patients and has a particular interest in feline oral disease. In addition to being a veterinary dentist, she is a yoga practitioner and certified yoga teacher. She enjoys reading, baking, and running. She and her husband Jesse (also a veterinarian) have two dogs, and four cats.

🐾Meet Dr. Wallace!🐾

As part of our commitment to exceptional care, we offer optional collaboration with Board-Certified Veterinary Anesthesiologists through My Vet Anesthesiologist™, ensuring advanced anesthesia oversight when specialty expertise is needed.

Dr. Amber Wallace was born in the New Orleans area, where she lived until she completed her undergraduate training at the University of New Orleans. She then went on to complete her veterinary degree at Louisiana State, a rotating internship at MedVet New Orleans, and finally a residency at NC State. In her free time, Dr. Wallace loves traveling. She has been to over 10 different states this year, and an African safari is on the 2027 agenda. She also enjoys cooking and live music. She has fun hanging out with family, friends, her 16-year-old dilute tortoiseshell cat (N***y) and brand new Silken Windhound puppy (Cherry). Dr. Wallace looks forward to providing anesthesia oversight & support for your pet!

If being cute was a sport she’d win gold🤩🏆

At MPD we love days like today! Brava and her mom came in after her exciting 1st place win this weekend for proactive routine care. Last year Brava needed VPT (Vital Pulp Therapy) on her 304, lower canine tooth. This year in addition to Brava’s dental cleaning and exam she also had a Cone Beam CT done to evaluate how the 304 is doing after having previous treatment. Imaging showed the tooth has recovered well! Brava was given the VIP (very important patient) treatment by our team along with emotional support from her mom and was the bestest girl! Routine care like this helps Brava keep doing her most favorite jobs in the world, winning and playing with her family. We’re looking forward to seeing her back!💫🐾
