Sweet girl Mochi visited us recently for treatment of feline tooth resorption. Tooth resorption is a painful condition where a cat’s tooth gradually breaks down from the outside in. As the damage reaches the sensitive inner part of the tooth, it can cause significant pain and allow infection to develop. The exact cause is still unknown, and unfortunately, there is no way to stop the process once it starts. Extraction is the most reliable way to relieve pain and treat an affected tooth.
Did you know? Cats who develop tooth resorption are more likely to develop additional lesions. That’s why we recommend dental checkups and radiographs every 6 months for cats with a history of tooth resorption. Regular tooth brushing can also help you notice changes early, but many cats hide dental pain, so routine dental exams are important.
