Comet and Willie Nelson have been huge personalities here at Farraway Stud this year. Tomorrow they depart for their new homes. I’m going to miss these sweet little boys.

Weaned and ready to go to their new homes

The Farraway Stud class of 2026 has been a delightful group of foals. The last to go leave this month and then we await the 2027 gang.

Farraway Stud has two Class One broodmares for sale. Both are proven broodmares and both are in foal for 2027.

One of these is Manu Fortis Touch of Spice. Saffy produced a delightful foal for us in 2026 and is an easy mare to handle. She is the complete professional when it comes to foaling out, and being a mom. Before coming to Farraway Stud she produced a number of incredible offspring for Manu Fortis stud.

A quality mare, who will only be sold to the best of homes. And if we don't find that for her, we will happily keep her!

Weaning Day?

We never hear as much as a whinny from the mares or the foals when we wean here at Farraway Stud.

Why is this?

It's because we have a large broodmare herd, and foals are used to hanging out more with their buddies and their aunties than they do with their dams by the time it is time to wean. Because they are used to the herd from the start, they have good social attachments to the herd as opposed to just their dam.

When we remove their dams, we are not therefore collapsing everything they know, and it doesn't stress them. They are still in their herd and simply adjust to not having the dam there.

The mares? Well they go for a spa week and frankly, they don't even lift their heads all week long.

Farraway Foal Club has a few spots left for 2027 foals.

As we are now moving towards retaining and training more of our foals, it is unlikely that any foals will be offered outside of the foal club. i.e, if you want a Farraway Foal next year, you need to join the foal club!

We have 10 foals due in 2027 with the first due in January and the last in June. We have 5 purebred Irish Draught foals due, and 5 Irish Sport Horse foals.

Out hacking on Jack and we came across some escapees!

Turns out my Irish Draught stallion is quite the cow horse. With the help of some hikers, we got ‘em rounded up and back in the pasture!
