“My dog is untrainable.”

That’s one of the most common things I hear.
And it’s almost always said about the same dogs: Huskies, Heelers, Beagles, Terriers, Akitas.

Here’s the hard truth most people never hear:

There are no untrainable dogs.
There are dogs trained with systems that were never designed for them.

Dogs bred to think independently don’t fail training because they’re stubborn or dumb. They fail because they’re smart enough to know when something doesn’t make sense.

A Beagle ignoring a recall isn’t being defiant. It’s following scent.
A Husky pulling isn’t misbehaving. It’s doing exactly what it was built to do.
A Cattle Dog losing focus isn’t broken. It’s under-stimulated.

When training fights genetics, the dog gets blamed.

When training works with motivation, instinct, and drive, behavior changes fast.

I just published a breakdown on why certain dogs get labeled “impossible,” what actually makes them feel difficult, and how training works when traditional methods fail.

If you’ve ever been told your dog is stubborn, dominant, or untrainable, this one’s for you.

Your dog isn't feeling guilty.

That look, ears back, eyes down, tail tucked, isn't remorse. It's a stress response to your body language right now.

When you walk in and see the mess hours later, your dog has no idea why you're upset. Their brain can't connect what they did earlier to your reaction now. The window for learning closed 1-3 seconds after the behavior happened.

So what are you actually teaching them?

Not to avoid the behavior. To fear your unpredictable anger.

The destruction continues because the real lesson was never learned. But now your dog also has anxiety around your arrivals.

We just published a breakdown of why delayed corrections fail and what actually works to stop destructive behavior:

→ The science behind the "guilty look."
→ Why your dog's brain can't process delayed consequences.
→ How to use timing, management, and real-time feedback to actually change behavior.

If your dog is stuck in a destructive pattern you can't break on your own, let's fix it. Private training and behavior consultations available in Boulder and Denver.

Your dog isn't stubborn. Your neighbor's advice is wrong.

Most dog problems don't come from "bad dogs"; they come from bad information that gets repeated until it sounds true.

If you've been training for months with little progress, the problem isn't your dog. It's what you've been told about how dogs actually work.

We just published a breakdown of the 14 most common dog training myths that keep dogs stuck and owners frustrated:

→ Why your dog doesn't feel "guilty."
→ What stubbornness actually means (hint: it's not what you think)
→ Why exhaustion isn't education
→ The real reason your dog "knows better" at home but ignores you at the park

This isn't about doing more. It's about dropping the myths that don't work and applying what does.
