Why did the turtle cross the road? 😃

Because it's nesting season!

Popping into your feed with your friendly annual reminder to be on the lookout for turtles this time of year. Thanks for your help keeping them out of danger! 🐢

Mental Health Awareness Month draws to a close this weekend. But for the passionate teams at Zoo New England, mental health mindfulness never ends.

The nature of our work—including caring for animals through all stages of their lives, conserving wildlife in ever-changing ecosystems, and working outside in all kinds of weather to maintain our zoos and habitats—it can take a toll on one's mental and emotional wellbeing. Burnout is not uncommon in our field of work.

At Zoo New England, we’re fortunate to have the CARE Committee. The CARE (Community Advocacy for Resilience and Empathy) Committee was formed by ZNE staff members to provide fellow staff resources about mental health issues, host classes, and sometimes boost our spirits. For Mental Health Awareness Month, the Committee organized a Mental Health Bingo challenge to encourage mindfulness and mental health breaks. Squares like "Get 10 minutes of sunlight” and “Spend 5 minutes with your favorite animal” and “Stretch for 5 minutes” really got the team at our sister zoo, Stone Zoo, out of their routines and taking care of their minds, bodies, and spirits. The results may just boost your spirits too!

Look up — there's a new furry face at Franklin Park Zoo. Meet Raji! 🧡

A new female red panda has been settling into the newly expanded habitat at Franklin Park Zoo. She moved here on a breeding recommendation to be with Gimli. Our fire fox fella will be at Stone Zoo for a little while longer while Raji is getting comfortable.

According to her care team, Raji loves to climb. So if you can't see her right away, be sure to spend some time looking up. You're likely to find her high up in the trees.

Looking at this sweet little guy, it's hard to believe he's around 9-feet tall now. 🦒

Our youngest Masai giraffe has done a lot of growing since he was born last summer. P***y is officially weaned, no more bottle feedings. Look for him eating whatever mom and dad are noshing at the hay feeder on Giraffe Savannah. He's even started some training sessions where he's learning skills that can help with his care. Way to grow, P***y!
