With tearful smiles we are saying goodbye to one of our technicians, Charlotte as she is making a big move to Arizona! Many of you have worked with Charlotte in exam rooms or up front discharging patients, but many of you have not had the opportunity to experience her care behind the scenes! Not only has Charlotte been a dedicated Halcyon employee for 7 years, but her lists of hats is never ending and the extra care she has put into patient care over the years has inspired us all. Behind the scenes she has ALWAYS put patient care and comfort first. From making doughnut beds out of blankets, to carrying kittens or puppies while she is ordering inventory, Charlotte has truly won her place in the hearts of many of us and so many of you! We are not just saying goodbye to a technician, we are saying goodbye to a cracking comedian, our "British Biscuit", an awesome kitten foster mom, and a friend.
Your pet's can't tell you how much Charlotte touched their lives and shared her light, but we can guarantee you that Charlotte will carry them with her in her heart and share how much they have touched hers!
See you later Charlotte, we will miss ya!!!

Juneteenth is truly a day to honor and celebrate!

❤️🖤💚 Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, truth, and the enduring fight for liberation.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom. Juneteenth stands as both a celebration and a reminder: freedom delayed is still freedom demanded.

For Dr. Maya Angelou, freedom was never simply political; it was spiritual, intellectual, and deeply personal. It was the freedom to speak, to write, to remember, and to rise.

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

Juneteenth reminds us that storytelling itself is liberation. Literacy is liberation. Truth is liberation.

As efforts to ban books and silence Black history continue, we are reminded that the fight for freedom includes the freedom to read, to learn, and to tell our stories fully.

“We may encounter many defeats, but we must not be defeated.”

Today, we honor the ancestors who endured, the voices who persisted, and the generations still rising.

Happy May, friends!
Summer is pretty much here (mostly) and so is our May pet of the month!
This is Brownie and he is SUCH a good boy. He has come a long way since we saw him for his first visit! Here is his story from his awesome family!:
"Mr. James Brownie is a chocolate lab formerly owned by Mrs. Hilda Ramsey, a sweet, short lady that was not able to bear children and decided to adopt and loved her dogs as if they were her children.

In her late days, Brownie was her companion while she faced and struggled with senile dementia. She'd forget anything new, but Brownie was always in her core memories. Among the things she had forgotten was how many times she had fed Brownie during the day, so every time she remembered, she would feed him and he would never turn away a good bowl of food served with love, added carrots, celery and putting away the green pellets because Mrs. Hilda thought they were spoiled 😅

That much love brought Brownie to weight 140 pounds at some point, and around that time he became homeless because Mrs. Hilda's dementia got worse and her family decided that it was best to take her back to Mexico to be taken care of by them. That's when he came home with us… I introduced him to my daughters and everything was giggles, laughs and magic. It was love at first sight!

He came home in January 2025 and with the help and care of Halcyon. We started a strict diet, some walks around the block that we called “exercise” and today brownie is back to his ideal weight!!!!!! He can jump, run, and even bark loudly and deep! He loves his baths, running in the yard, playing with plushies, and destroys every baseball he finds!!! He still tries to trick me to feed him more!"

As you can see, Brownie is very well loved by his people and couldn't have ended up in a more perfect place. We hope you guys enjoy Brownie as much as we do!! ❤ (Pictures start from least recent to most recent)

Hey friends!
We have been seeing an increase in calls and questions about possibly orphaned baby
rabbits. In some cases, removing a litter of newborn rabbits from their nest may do more
harm than good. If you have a large lawn, it is rather common to find a rabbit nest this
time of year. We wanted to remind everyone what to do when you encounter babies.
Newborn rabbits only nurse a few times daily and for a few minutes at a time. Unlike
many animals, the mothers spend more time away from the nest. In almost every case,
the nest is NOT abandoned! When they are not at the nest the mothers are foraging
and eating to make sure they can keep feeding their babies.
If you find an intact nest of baby rabbits and the mother is not around, the best course of
action is to leave the nest alone and stay out of sight. If a baby has fallen or escaped
from the nest you may gently replace it and stay out of sight. The mother often returns
at dawn and dusk but will not if she is being watched. If the nest was damaged or
disrupted inadvertently, don’t panic, you can repair it if the babies are not injured. Simply
replace as much of the nest material as you can and cover the nest back up with a light
layer of grass. Do not stay around the nest as the mother will not return if you do!
If the babies are around 4-5 inches long, hopping, have eyes open, and have ears
erect, they may be left alone entirely.
For young wildlife, the best chance of survival is always with the mother. If you find a
baby rabbit or animal that is injured your best course of action is to contact your local
wildlife rehabilitator. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries keeps a current
list of rehabilitators by parish at https://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/page/permitted-wildlife-
rehabilitators. We are also very fortunate to have Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation
of Louisiana locally (werla.net). Our rehabilitators are swamped during the spring as this
is baby season for many animals. Let’s do our part to keep their burden lighter and to
keep babies with their mothers!
