A recent rabies case in a domestic dog in San Antonio is an important reminder that rabies is still very much present in our region.

Rabies is almost always fatal once clinical signs develop, but it is also highly preventable through vaccination. Even pets that rarely leave the yard can encounter wildlife such as bats, skunks, raccoons, and foxes.

Please make sure your pets are current on their rabies vaccinations, and avoid allowing them to interact with wildlife.

If you’re unsure whether your pet is up to date on their rabies vaccination, give us a call and we’ll be happy to check their records. If you know your pet is overdue, please call us to schedule an appointment!

☀️ Boogie’s Summer Safety Reminder! 🐾

Boogie may be staying cool inside Riverside, but Louisiana heat can become dangerous for pets very quickly!

Watch closely for signs of heat exhaustion, including excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or acting disoriented. Always provide plenty of fresh water and shade, limit activity during the hottest part of the day, and never leave a pet in a parked vehicle.

If you think your pet may be overheating, get them somewhere cool and contact us at Riverside Animal Hospital right away!

🐱 Riverside Success Story:

Last Friday, this adorable kitten named Dryer Lint came to us after becoming very sick shortly after an over-the-counter product was administered at home.

Our examination and lab work revealed something very concerning - her kidney values were so high they were off the charts!

After several days of IV fluid therapy and dedicated care from our team, we’re incredibly happy to share that Dryer Lint responded beautifully to treatment and made a full recovery! 🎉

Cases like this remind us how quickly a pet’s condition can change and how important it is to seek veterinary care as soon as you notice something isn’t right. Early intervention can truly make all the difference. We’re so thankful Dryer Lint’s family acted quickly, and we’re honored they trusted us with her care.

Today, we’re excited to welcome and introduce Dr. Kohl Brandon, the new owner of Riverside Animal Hospital!

💙 Dr. Brandon is honored to serve as the new owner of Riverside Animal Hospital! He is excited to continue Riverside’s tradition of compassionate, high-quality care while building genuine relationships with clients and their pets.

One of the things that drew him to Riverside was its family atmosphere and the relationships built with clients over the past 40+ years. He looks forward to building on that legacy while continuing to invest in the hospital, the team, and the care your pets receive.

His favorite part of veterinary medicine is building lasting relationships with clients and helping pets live healthier, happier lives. In his words: “I know my pets play a significant part in my life and waking up every day with the opportunity to create a positive impact in my community by strengthening the bond between a person and their pet truly keeps me energetic! It is something I will never take for granted, and something I consider to be a true blessing in my life.” Dr. Brandon believes in treating everyone like family, and providing gold standard care to the fur babies they love.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Brandon enjoys spending time outdoors and spending time with his family who plays a huge role in his life. He and his wife attend First Baptist church in Haughton, and they are also excited to welcome their first child later this fall! They have 3 fur babies at home: a chocolate lab named Chevie, a bloodhound named Bo and a cat named Scooter🐶🐱

Dr. Brandon is honored to be part of the Riverside family and looks forward to meeting many more of you and your pets in the years to come!

Today we’d like to introduce Dr. Glen Ritter!

💙 Dr. Ritter has been caring for pets and their families for 40 years, and every one of those years has been spent right here at Riverside Animal Hospital.

What he enjoys most about veterinary medicine is helping people by helping their beloved pets. One of the things he loves most about Riverside is the family atmosphere shared between our team and the clients we’ve been privileged to serve over the years.

Dr. Ritter says one of his favorite parts of practicing veterinary medicine is becoming a lasting part of families’ lives—caring for multiple generations of pets and building relationships that span decades.

Outside of the clinic, he enjoys traveling, hiking our nation’s beautiful parks, cooking (especially smoking meat!), staying active, and spending time with family, friends, his two daughters, four grandchildren, and his rescue French Bulldog.

We’re incredibly grateful for Dr. Ritter’s 40 years of dedication to Riverside and to the countless pets and families he has cared for over the years.

💙 Chris has been caring for pets for 10 years and has been part of the Riverside family since 2016.

What he enjoys most about veterinary medicine is building relationships with clients and loving on their pets. His favorite thing about Riverside is the family atmosphere shared among both coworkers and clients.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys sports, music, spending time outdoors, and making memories with family and friends. He and his wife have one daughter and share their home with two rescue dogs and four rescue cats.

One fun fact about Chris? He loves trivia! Next time you see him, go ahead and test out his skills!
