Both Connie and Temper's litters have eyes open! This little White Ear Black Gold Tipped Steel doe from Temper's litter was the first to open her eyes!

I also suspect this litter is very doe heavy.

I want to make this blatantly clear: I will not tolerate anyone getting mouthy on this. Take your bleeding hearts elsewhere. I refuse to sugarcoat the situation.

I will start by saying this situation is not normal! This is actually the first time in 10 years this has happened, and it came out of the blue. I have been trying to find a soft approach to this without setting anyone off, but there is no good way to do that.

Saturday, Dahlia was hard culled after she latched onto my arm and would not let go. I had such high hopes for her, but I will not tolerate a biter, much less put my children or the general public in harm's way, no matter how minor or severe the bite is!

These photos span from Saturday evening, about 10 hours after the bite, to just a moment ago.

This is not what I breed for, but I am thankful this is not a normalcy.

Update on Temper and Connie's litters:

Not the update I wanted to make, but Connie ended up losing her litter after they were left uncovered. This same thing happened this past year, so at this point, she will be retired.

Temper's litter and the four kits I fostered onto Temper from Connie's litter are doing AMAZING! They turned one week old yesterday and are truly thriving.
(The solid blues are Connie's kits.)

I am really looking forward to watching these littles grow!

We appreciate each and every single one of you and hope you all had a blast today!

I will be in hibernate mode for the next few days so bare with me!

Swap spot secured and set up (mostly)!

It's been a looong past two weeks getting prepared! And while I am ready to veg after this, I am so excited to see everyone tomorrow!

And even if you don't go home with anything from us, I hope you all come out and enjoy good food, good music, and fun events! The Maryland Poultry Swap & Farmer's Market at Green Hill Farm has been something we have always visited since the very first swap and my oldest was a baby! She is now a teenager, and I still love going to this event whether it's to be a vendor or just to visit!

Also, here is a rough estimate of what we will be bringing!

Monday, Temper and Connie both kindled beautiful litters!

Unfortunately, Connie's litter was huge again, counting in at 13. Temper's litter counted in at 5.

One of Connie's kits is half the size of its littermates. I ended up fostering the tiny kit and 2 others onto Temper to take some load off of Connie and to give the tiny kit a chance.

So far, it is eating and catching up! I can barely tell which one it is now.

Connie does seem to be struggling to feed this litter, and at her age, this will probably be our last attempt at getting a daughter from her.

There are things I am doing to try to get her milk production up. But she is trying!

After a bit of a breather, I think I'm in an "okay-ish" headspace to multitask again.

Starting off with Statts "Connie" and Jet Hill's JH5 "Temper." Both are due to kindle on Tuesday.

I'm REALLY hoping this round goes better than the last with Connie. She has actually been spending time in the nest box, so I don't think she'll go rogue on me again and build the nest outside of the box. Temper can't decide on what she wants to do, but I'm less worried about her nesting habits.

The next week and a half is going to be so busy! I'm preparing for the swap, getting pedigrees caught up, dealing with this abnormal heat wave, and anything else weird that wants to barrel roll my way from day to day! Please bear with me!

Today was a mix of scrambling to get the shade cloth on, fighting the shade cloths because we are missing two posts that we used last year, not having enough carabiners, ripping the corner support off of one corner by accident, Geoffrey slicing his thumb open on a bungee cord that snapped, and... yeah... today has been a mess 🫠

But! The shades are up! The rabbits have massive relief from the sun for the rest of the day and tomorrow!

My house may look like a circus tent at the moment, but proof is in the video of how effective the shades are!
