📣⚠️ Calling all Kitty Cat Rehab supporters!! ⚠️📣

In the most recent Kitty Cat Rehab post, we shared the sickly faces of 8 medical cases brought into our care from a vacant farm in Mingo, IA. There are still over 50 neglected cats/kittens on this foreclosed, abandoned property. Kitty Cat Rehab is planning/ working with LeAnn Hazen to conduct a huge TNR event to fix, vaccinate & relocate these kitties to barn homes with food/water/shelter. This mission is taking place on Friday July 3rd at 8am!! However, we need support from the community to make this happen!

Doctor Tammy and the miracle worker, Leann, who aids all of KCR intakes, will be bringing a camper onsite to fix/vaccinate/ear tip all the cats present!! On their day off, they are willing to make the commute to Mingo and support this mission. In order for them to do their part, we need help catching cats for them and transporting the cats to their new safe havens.

✨ Catching cats will include putting friendlies into kennels and setting traps for the wild/scared ones. A lot of the cats on the property will approach when food is present.

✨ Transporting cats will include putting the fixed cats in your car to be transported to one of the barn homes located in Ogden & Boone. It is recommended that volunteers bring personal kennels to simplify equipment tracking.

✨ Equipment: Drop Traps, live traps and kennels are a necessity to make this mission run smoothly. If you're willing to volunteer and are able to donate these items for the day, this would be extremely beneficial.

This vital project alone is projected to exceed $1,000. But the true urgency lies with the 10 additional medical cases, each cat desperately needing Kitty Cat Rehab's immediate, life-saving attention. For the remaining 40 (approximately) cats, a contribution of just $55 will provide them with essential onsite care, offering a chance at a healthier, happier future.

After these cats have received their life-changing care, Kitty Cat Rehab will share the associated costs in case anyone wishes to sponsor a kitty. We'll share the faces and names of each cat, along with their individual surgery costs, so you can truly connect with the one whose story touches your heart most deeply, knowing your sponsorship will utterly transform their world. 😻

⚠️ NEW INTAKES ⚠️

Yesterday's rescue mission was tough. Over 50 cats are left on a foreclosed, abandoned property left to fend for themselves. Neglected with no one coming to save them.

Kitty Cat Rehab took in 7 kittens and 1 adult cat in horrendous shape. The worst part is, there's about 20 more in similar condition. We are still in the planning stages but at the end of this month we are planning to have a group of volunteers come out and catch as many as possible. They are going to get fixed/vaccinated and relocated to barn homes that have shelter, food & water. The tame and medical cases will be brought in under Kitty Cat Rehab and adopted out as indoor only kitties. ❤️

This Sunday, June 14th, at 10 AM, Kitty Cat Rehab will be at the Sam's Club car show! 😻😻

We're bringing some truly wonderful adoptable cats who are eagerly waiting to find their forever homes at this event.

😻 ADOPTION #46 FOR KITTY CAT REHAB 😻

❤️ Sheeba. Sheeba was taken in with her brother on January 3rd, 2026. Kitty Cat Rehab's first intake of the year! She came bearing fleas, ringworm and a minor respiratory infection. Her ringworm was caught early and thankfully didn't spread or take terribly long to manage.

Sheeba was born outside, on a very overcrowded and neglected property. Thankfully fate led her to the neighbors where their hearts overflow for strays. These kind souls, already stretched thin by vet bills, reached out to Kitty Cat Rehab, hoping to give Sheeba and her brother a chance at a fully vetted life filled with love and dedicated care. ❤️ With constant communication, we were able to get Sheeba's mom fixed too!

After months of care, Sheeba's original caretakers couldn't forget her. Even after Duke found his home, Sheeba stayed in their hearts. Now, she's back with them, living the indoor life she deserves... fixed, vaccinated, and healthy. Plus, she gets to stay with her mom, a rare and beautiful gift! We're beyond grateful for adoptions like these! 😻

9 kitties were TNR'D this past week!! 🥰

4 spays & 2 nueters from Forest City
1 spay from Ogden
1 spay from Mingo
1 spay from Madrid

2026 stats: 48 kitties fixed/vaccinated
26 spays (25 being TNR)
22 nueters (19 being TNR)

Unfortunately, a handful of these spays were spay/aborts. Kitty Cat Rehab and 99% of rescues make the tough decision to spay/abort almost daily. It's a hard call that doesn't come easily. TNR is vital for the community but unfortunately we don't always catch the cat before they get pregnant. Spaying before pregnancy even happens is the goal. However, it's not always the outcome.

Some may ask, "how can you make the decision to abort kittens?" Here's why:

A female cat can get pregnant as early as 4mo. That is a kitten, having kittens herself. Most outdoor cats don't have the luxury of food, shelter or water supply. Most outdoor cats come bearing parasites or illnesses that will be passed onto their offspring. If the pregnant cat is very young, very old, or in poor health, pregnancy can cause even more health problems for the momma cat. The kindest and most compassionate action anyone could take with one of these cats is to spay her and abort her litter.

Spaying a rescued pregnant cat also contains the overpopulation problem. There are simply too few homes for the huge number of homeless cats. Preventing an unplanned litter may also help prevent the deaths of the living cats and kittens. Even when a pregnant female cat is adopted by the finder, and there are good homes waiting for her kittens, some people view each of those kittens as being indirectly responsible for the death of a shelter cat or kitten that might have been adopted into one of those homes.

Pyometra. This is a serious type of infection that can affect any animal's uterus. If left untreated, pyometra will be fatal. Pyometra is a bacterial infection of the uterus so it only affects cats that have not been spayed. Cats that have been spayed have had their uterus and/or ovaries removed so it is not possible for a cat to have pyometra unless the surgical procedure was incomplete.

Feral kittens outdoors face extremely high mortality rates, with estimates indicating that 50% to 75%—and up to 80% in some areas—die or disappear before reaching six months of age. Only about 1 in 4 kittens born outside survives past the first year. Even if the kitten is lucky enough to be taken from the streets, it's a high probability that they are being rehomed online either for profit or being advertised as live bait. Assuming the finder has good intentions, do they have the hundreds of dollars it takes to fully vet and alter a kitty? If not, the cycle continues.

Kitten yoga yesterday was a purrrfect success! It was amazing partnering with the ISU Feline Club! Kitty Cat Rehab and Moffits Animal Shelter collided and brought 8 kitties to join in on the fun! Huge thanks to the Feline Club for putting this on for us. It was a great turnout! 😻😻

⚠️ NEW INTAKE ALERT ⚠️

❤️ Gismo. She came from an overcrowded trailer park where it was expressed that one of the locals has been hurting kitties that come onto his property 💔.

We have been doing TNR at this location over the past couple months, thanks to Lorene Faust for trapping/transporting. Sierra Stauter reached out this medical case and set Kitty Cat Rehab up with the caretaker for this precious girl.

She is the size of a 16wk old kitten but estimated to be around 7 m/o! Respiratory infection, ear yeast infection, eye infection & desperately needs to gain weight. Today she tested negative for FELV/FIV, received her FVRCP vaccine and received medical care that her condition requires. She has a promising start to her recovery. We're committed to giving her the care and love she needs to heal and thrive. 😻

⚠️ NEW INTAKES ALERT ⚠️

These 5 sweeties were rescued from a very high kill shelter. Kitty Cat Rehab rescued these 5wk old kittens on March 20th. They came bearing ringworm & respiratory infections.

Their intake condition was heartbreaking. They were so skinny and balding from ringworm. Fast forward to now, they're putting on weight, devouring hard food and ALMOST clear from ringworm! Today they received their first FVRCP vaccine.

They escaped a death sentence, finally found endless joy and constantly express it through contented purrs 😻
