Congratulations to Karin and Herja on passing their PSA-PDC today!! Karin did it with a broken ankle too 🫡🙌🏻

Herja’s heeling was beautiful and her outs were pretty dang clean considering how civil and nasty Herja is on the bite. Great work you two.

For those who don’t know, Karin and I co-own Herja and she’s been with Karin the last 6 months while I was in police academy.

Herja is now:

Letti aus der Asche, CGC, BH-VT, PSA-PDC, ASCTI Explosives Detection K9.

We had a successful week at the 2026 ASCTI conference. I don’t post a lot on my training page about my work with search and rescue but I think this deserves mention.

Xerxes and I passed our American Society of Canine Trainers International Wilderness Area Search Certification this week! I certified Xerxes in tracking last October but realized that I had no use for two tracking dogs and in January of this year, just 6 months ago, I decided to switch Xerxes to area search as our county search team does not have an area search dog and constantly needed to call dogs in from other agencies.

Xerxes and I serve Boundary County, Idaho with Boundary Search and Dive Rescue Team alongside my other tracking search dog, K9 Zuko. You can follow my search and rescue work on Zuko’s Instagram

MASSIVE Congratulations to Sarah and K9 Lobo for passing your American Society of Canine Trainers International Search and Rescue Tracking Certification today at the ASCTI Conference. I’m so incredibly proud of these two and grateful that Lobo and Sarah found each other.

Sarah and Lobo serve Nez Perce County, Idaho and neighboring communities with their search team.

I love seeing these former shelter dogs go on to live amazing, fulfilling lives with their handlers. ❤️

Search and Rescue K9 Lobo is doing fantastic with his handler Sarah! They are working towards certification and doing amazing. Hard to believe this boy spent so long looking for his perfect person but boy is it rewarding to see him thrive now that he has.

I get to see Lobo and Sarah next month at our certification conference and I’m absolutely stoked.

When we are doing detection:
obedience to odor > obedience to the handler

Can’t forget which end of the leash is the dumb one 👆🏻

XERXES AUS DER ASCHE

My goal for Xerxes is to produce exceptional Search and Rescue K9s.

Xerxes is a larger male with strong genetic tracking behavior and high hunt drive with super environmental confidence. He is a proven stud who passes his dependable off switch on to his offspring.

Xerxes is a biddable dog, he is trustworthy in all aspects of life and is truly my easiest dog. He is safe around cats and small animals, and he is neutral with both people and dogs even if a dog is being reactive towards him. Xerxes always gives 110% in his work and is a very honest dog on the track. He is sensitive to his handler yet loyal to odor. When I taught him to track for search and rescue the tracking part came naturally, all I had to do was teach him how to give negatives.

Xerxes’ personality is very playful, goofy, fun loving. His curiosity and willingness to learn new things always shines. Like most German Shepherds he is stoic and serious around strangers, giving the impression of being “all business”. Xerxes is neutral but leans social in most settings. He is great at the vet and groomer. He’s a dog who I know I can hand the leash off to just about anyone and know that he will be well behaved and sweet.

Xerxes truly stamps himself on his offspring. Xerxes has sired several pet litters and a few working pups. My goal is produce more tracking dogs in search and rescue.

Xerxes pedigree includes some of my favorite dogs, including his father, Panter Z Gemera, Wabi Vikar, Karn vom Fegelhof, Bolle Ja Na Ka, Jaro Ja-He, and of course Ellute von der Mohnwiese.
