⛈️🐾 Southwest Florida Pet Parents: Is Your Hurricane Plan Ready? 🐾⛈️**
With the Atlantic hurricane season officially here, we want to make sure our entire SWFL community is fully prepared. As veterinarians, we know that the best way to keep your furry family members safe is to plan before the cone of uncertainty points our way.
To help you get ready, Bonita Veterinary Hospital has put together this comprehensive Pet Hurricane Preparedness & Recovery guide!
Here are the top 4 steps you should take right now:
* 🎒 Build a Pet Disaster Kit: Don't just pack food and water (minimum 2 weeks). Ensure you have at least a **4-week supply of your pet's medications** and copies of their medical records in a waterproof bag.
* 🗺️ Know Your Evacuation Plan: Check your local SWFL evacuation zone (Lee, Collier, or Charlotte counties). Identify pet-friendly shelters, research pet-welcoming hotels outside the storm's path, and designate an out-of-state emergency contact.
* 🆔 Double-Check Identification: Make sure your pet's microchip is registered with your current phone number. Ensure their collar tag is up-to-date and take a photo of you *with* your pet as proof of ownership.
* ⚠️ Stay Alert After the Storm: Severe hazards remain after the storm passes. Watch out for downed power lines, standing water (which can harbor bacteria and mosquitoes), displaced wildlife, and mold. Always keep your pets on a leash during post-storm walks!
Save this infographic to your phone, print it out for your fridge, and share it with your fellow Florida pet owners!
