Vet techs are the heart of every OR team, and their skill and dedication make a difference every single day. At some VCA specialty hospitals, we take surgical collaboration even further. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on one of our wonderful veterinarians, Dr. Goldish!

Dr. Goldish is a true animal lover, especially when it comes to cats and dogs. At home, she has one cat, Koshka, who definitely does things on her own terms!

When she’s not caring for her patients, Dr. Goldish enjoys puzzling, arts and crafts, working on projects around the house, and spending time with her family. And, of course, she never turns down a good nap! Her favorite movie is Pirates of the Caribbean, her favorite food is mac and cheese, and her favorite drink is a Portillo’s Cake Shake.

If she could instantly become an expert at one thing, she would choose woodworking. One day, she would also love to visit her dream vacation destination: Australia!

The best part of being a veterinarian for Dr. Goldish is helping pets feel better and giving them the opportunity to live happier, more comfortable lives. It’s easy to see how much she genuinely cares about the animals she treats and the people around her.
If Dr. Goldish were an animal, she says she would be a golden retriever — happy all the time and without a care in the world!

Dr. Goldish is truly a wonderful person with a big heart. She brings compassion, kindness, and genuine care to her work every day, and we’re so lucky to have her as part of our team.

Its that time again, for our Employee Spotlight!

Meet Dr. Nelson, one of the kindest and most uplifting veterinarians you’ll ever encounter. Known for her calm demeanor and consistently positive attitude, she brings a sense of peace and reassurance to both her team and every pet she cares for.

Dr. Nelson is a proud mom to three children and a loving pet parent to her two dogs, Magnolia and Philippe Bojangles, as well as her two rats, Gobber and Chester. Her home is just as full of life and love as the clinic she helps lead each day.

An avid fitness enthusiast, Dr. Nelson prioritizes her health and starts her mornings with energy and intention (usually with a cup of coffee in hand!). She values connection and teamwork, beginning and ending each day with a team huddle to ensure everyone feels supported, aligned, and ready to provide the best care possible.

Her passion for veterinary medicine comes from a deep desire to give animals a voice when they can’t communicate for themselves. That compassion shines through in everything she does.

When she’s not at work, Dr. Nelson prefers the serenity of the mountains over the beach—fitting for someone who embodies such a peaceful presence. And if she could have any pet in the world, it would be a koala, a reflection of her own calm and gentle spirit.

Dr. Nelson truly radiates the kind of energy that makes people feel comfortable, supported, and inspired. We’re so lucky to have such a genuine and compassionate person on our team.

Employee Spotlight:

Lura!

This month we are celebrating one of the brightest lights in our hospital Lura! For the past 9 years, Lura has been an incredible Client Service Representative who keeps our fast-paced animal hospital running with kindness, compassion, and positivity every single day.

Lura truly represents the kind of person we should all strive to be. She is loving, caring, hardworking, and always brings warmth to everyone she meets both clients and coworkers alike. One of her favorite parts about working at the hospital is getting to know all of the people and pets who walk through our doors. She has a way of making everyone feel welcomed, cared for, and important.

Outside of work, Lura is a proud mom of two wonderful children and the beloved dog mom of Javie (Javier Biez), who absolutely rules the neighborhood! Javie's favorite things include cheese, chicken, and spicy food clearly he has excellent taste.

When she's not caring for others at work, you can usually find Lura at home enjoying her favorite place to eat, where her husband Juan and Javie love cooking for her. She loves popcorn and cheese, cooking, and baking. If you ever get the chance, ask her about her bread! It's legendary.

Lura also has a love for classical music and enjoys relaxing while listening to timeless pieces. She's a huge sports fan and can often be found cheering on the Cubs or the Bears. Her favorite movie is The Wizard of Oz, and if she could become an expert in anything, it would be finance law.

We are beyond grateful for the joy, heart, and dedication Lura brings to our team every day. Thank you, Lura, for being such an amazing part of our hospital family for the last 9 years. We love and appreciate you more than words can say!

We had such special visits at VCA Bolingbrook Animal Hospital! 🐾

Two amazing Girl Scout troops stopped by to learn all about veterinary medicine with Dr. McNamara—and of course, her adorable assistant, Tinlee the French Bulldog, was happy to help!

From how we care for our patients to what it takes to become a veterinarian, these future leaders asked great questions and brought so much enthusiasm with them. We love inspiring the next generation and sharing what makes this field so rewarding.

Thank you to both troops for spending time with us—we hope to see some of you back in scrubs one day! 💚

Spring into nostalgia with us 💙🐾

Dr. Nelson recently recreated a very special photo with Phoebe—13 years later! From a tiny puppy to a beautiful senior, Phoebe has been part of our VCA Bolingbrook family every step of the way.

Moments like this are why we love what we do. Building lifelong relationships with our patients and their families is at the heart of everything we believe in. Watching them grow, supporting them through every life stage, and being there for all the big (and small) moments is truly an honor.

Here’s to many years of wagging tails, happy visits, and continued care from puppyhood to the golden years!
