Building better for giant breeds 🐾

We started The Big Damn Dog Co. because we believed giant breeds deserved better.

Better research.
Better formulations.
Better education.
Better years.

Today we're incredibly honored to share that our work has been recognized with a 2026 Pet Innovation Award.

Awards are exciting. But what matters even more is what they represent.

Every review from a family whose dog can get back on the couch.
Every veterinarian who believes giant breeds deserve specialized care.
Every owner who refuses to accept that "slowing down" is just part of getting older.

This recognition belongs just as much to this community as it does to us. ✨️

Thank you for believing in our mission to help giant breeds live more, better years!

Local friends!! 📣👉 We’ve always believed that big dogs deserve a community built just for them.

That’s why we’re so excited to be hosting the BIG DOG WALK CLUB - a monthly meetup for giant and large breed dogs and the people who love them!

Think coffee, donuts, a relaxed group walk, and a chance to connect with other big dog parents who truly understand life with a 100+ pound best friend.

We’ll also be bringing in occasional guest speakers to share practical tips on big dog health and wellness, so you and your pup leave having learned something new.

Whether you have (or are curious about) a Great Dane, Mastiff, Newfoundland, Saint Bernard, Irish Wolfhound, or any oversized sidekick, you’re invited.

Our next walk is coming up on August 22nd - we hope to see you there!

Read that again.

They don't get to choose what they eat.
They don't get to choose how much they move.
They don't get to choose how their joints are cared for.

They don't get a choice in the matter.

We do.

How are you doing right by your big dog today? 🖤🐾

Sometimes I stop while packing orders and think...
None of this would exist if it weren't for one dog.

Lucy changed the trajectory of our lives. She taught us just how different giant breeds are, how underserved they are, and how much better they deserved.

We didn't set out to start a supplement company.
We just loved a dog enough to ask, "Why isn't there something better for dogs like her?"

One question led to another, and somehow here we are... packing orders for giant breed families all over the country.

Thank you for believing in this mission and trusting us with your big dogs. It means more than you'll ever know. 💛🐾

Hopefully not cause this girl runs HOT 🥵🐾 With triple-digit temperatures hitting here in Idaho, we're always looking for ways to help Juni stay comfortable while still getting outside. ☀️🐾

We just picked up this cooling vest and are getting her used to wearing it before we put it to the test.

The idea is pretty neat: you soak the vest in water, and as that water slowly evaporates, it helps pull heat away from your dog's body—kind of like how sweating helps cool us down. 💧

We haven't tried it out yet, so I'm curious... Have you ever used a cooling vest? Was it worth it?

And while we're at it, what are your go-to tricks for keeping your big dog cool while still getting them outside during the summer?

Drop your recommendations below! 👇🐾

Every morning was another opportunity to show up for Lucy.

We couldn't control her genetics or stop time.

But we could control what went into her bowl, how we supported her joints, and the little choices that added up over the years.

That's how we've always thought about caring for giant breeds—not looking for a quick fix, but building a routine that gives them the best chance at staying active, comfortable, and happy for as long as possible.

We know not every dog will have the same journey. But if we can help them enjoy a few more walks, a few more zoomies, or a few more mornings like these... it's worth it.

RIP Lucy. You'll always be why we started. 🖤🐾

"I was worried I started too late." We hear that more often than you'd think.

If you have an older giant breed who's starting to slow down, it's easy to wonder if you missed your chance to make a difference.

The truth is, while we always encourage starting joint support early, it's rarely too late to support comfort, mobility, and quality of life.

This review came from the owner of an 8-year-old Great Dane who was hesitant to lie down, had stopped sitting completely, and was beginning to show the signs so many of us recognize.

Now? He's taking the stairs with confidence, stretching out on the floor again, and eagerly running to his meals (the Gravy Blend tends to have that effect).

Every dog is different, and joint support isn't an overnight fix—most dogs see the full benefits after 60–90 days of consistent use. And hearing success stories like this are exactly why we do what we do.

Here's to more comfortable mornings, easier movement, and more, better years. 🖤🐾

We all know the obvious signs of a chicken allergy. But what about the more subtle reactions behind a chicken sensitivity?

Before adding another probiotic to your dog's dinner, try eliminating something first. You may uncover that a protien or ingredient sensitivity is what's behind your dog's crappy 💩

We live in a world where we're conditioned to expect results almost immediately.

But joints don't work that way.

Joint breakdown, cartilage wear, muscle loss, and years of compensation don't happen in 30 days. They develop slowly over time.

Supporting those same joints takes time, too.

That's why we encourage owners to commit to at least 60–90 days before deciding whether a joint supplement is helping. Some dogs show changes sooner. Others need more time. But expecting a lifetime of wear and tear to reverse in a month sets everyone up for disappointment.

Consistency matters.

So if you're 30 days in and wondering whether it's working, keep going. Your dog's joints are playing the long game, and so should you. 🖤🐾

Another Big Dog Walk Club in the books! 🐾

Every month, this community gets a little bigger (almost 20 dogs joined us this morning!), and it's been so much fun watching it grow.

This morning was full of great conversations, big damn dogs, and a discussion about one of the most confusing topics in dog ownership: nutrition.

We talked about five things every giant breed owner should know—from the protein myth and homemade diets to what "complete and balanced" actually means, why sourcing matters, and how to ask better questions about what's in your dog's bowl.

The biggest takeaway? You don't have to be perfect. You just need to be asking better questions than the bag of food is designed to make you ask.

Thank you to everyone who came out and braved the heat with us! 💛

If you weren't able to make it, we've put together a four-part nutrition series in our Giant Breed Resource Library that dives much deeper into today's talk, complete with the research behind it. We'll add the link in the comments so you can check it out.

We'd love to have you at the next walk!
