Some dogs are born to run.

Some are born to sniff the same bush for ten minutes.

And then there are the ones who want to do both.

That's why we don't treat every Zen pup like they need the same workout. Trail runs, hikes, and slower-paced adventures all have their place. It's about finding what works for each dog.

Best Stuff Magazine recently featured our approach to dog fitness in this sponsored article:

Now we need to know: is your dog a trail runner, a hiker, or a professional sniffer?

Most people see a bunch of happy dogs.

I see the last ten years of my life.

When I started Zen in Boise back in 2016, I was handing out flyers and hoping people would give us a chance.

Today, I get to look at pictures like these: the dogs, our team, the adventures, and a business that has become such a big part of my life.

Homebody Magazine recently shared my story, how Zen got started, and some of the big ideas I have for its future.

To the families who've trusted us with their dogs, recommended us to friends, or cheered us on along the way: thank you. It means more than you know.

And if you're wondering... yes, I still get just as excited to see the dogs as they do to see me.

Pack stats just landed, Boise! 🐾

Check out where the pack went today in the Treasure Valley foothills. They crushed 5.2 miles, climbed 555 ft, and came home happy, tired, and proud.

GPS-tracked. Adventure-approved. Want your pup in the next route summary?

The foothills are officially back in business, and the pack has OPINIONS about how long summer took. 🐕🍂

Quick explainer for new Zen families. Every summer we pull the group out of the hills. Two reasons:

☀️ Heat. Dogs can't sweat it out like we can, and a 2-hour ridge climb in July is a safety problem, not a workout.
🌾 Cheatgrass. Those little barbed seeds work their way into paws, ears, and noses, and the vet bills are no joke.

So from June through September, we run shaded early-morning park sessions and climate-controlled days at Clubhound. Still structured. Still GPS-tracked. Still tired dogs. Just smarter.

And now? Cooler mornings. Cheatgrass gone to seed and settled. The Military Reserve, Crestline, Table Rock, all of it wide open.

This is the season Zen was built for. Off-leash group hikes, trail runs, 500+ feet of climbing before most people have had coffee. If your dog has been giving you the "is that it?" look after neighborhood walks all summer, this is your moment.

Homebody Magazine just ran a piece on why Boise's health-conscious owners are choosing Zen. Spoiler: this is a big part of it. https://homebodymagazine.com/the-companion/5-reasons-boise-s-health-conscious-pet-owners-are-choosing-zen-pet-care-services

A long-term study published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association found that lean dogs lived, on average, almost two years longer than their overweight peers.

Two years. 🐾

Read that as a dog owner, not a statistic. Two more summers at the river. Two more years of the tail going crazy when your keys jingle. Two more years of a head on your lap at the end of a hard day.

Here's the hard part. The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention estimates 59% of dogs in the U.S. are overweight or obese. More than half. And most owners don't see it, because it happens one extra treat and one skipped walk at a time.

The pet care industry is finally catching on that fitness isn't a luxury. It's preventive healthcare. It protects joints, hearts, metabolism, and mood. It's the single most loving thing you can do that doesn't involve a vet bill.

That's why we've built Zen around structured exercise instead of quick potty breaks. Not because walks aren't nice. Because years matter.

The Cultural Review just covered the five hidden health risks of dog obesity and how Boise owners are pushing back. Worth five minutes: https://theculturalreview.com/trends/start-walking-your-dog-to-avoid-these-5-hidden-health-risks-of-dog-obesity

Most dog walkers send you a text. "Walked, pottied, good boy." 🐾

Here's what Zen families got after one Friday morning at The Military Reserve:

📍 5.20 miles | 1:00:48 on trail
⛰️ 555 ft of climbing
🔥 806 calories burned
👣 8,131 steps
🗺️ Route: Central Ridge Trail → Ridge Crest → Toll Rd Trail → Cottonwood Creek Trail

And then the part everyone actually scrolls to first. The pack notes:

Koa ran like he had a board meeting to get back to. Red didn't just set the pace, Red WAS the pace. Rex is the gold standard for trail manners. Wh***ey had zero plans and maximum energy. Ziggy didn't run the trail, Ziggy performed it.

Every outing is GPS-tracked. Every family gets the map, the stats, the photos, and the honest notes within 24 hours. Over time those reports become a real fitness record for your dog. You can see progress, not just "had fun today."

That's the difference between a walk and a fitness program.

October is one of our favorite times of year at Zen Pet Care Services.

Cooler mornings, happier dogs, longer adventures—and we’re getting closer to returning to the Boise Foothills for our off-leash trail runs and hikes.

We’ve spent 10 years building Zen around one simple idea: dogs deserve more than just a walk around the block. They deserve exercise, enrichment, adventure, and a team that truly knows them.

From structured group walks to trail running and canine fitness, we’re proud to keep raising the bar for what professional dog care can look like in Boise.

Fall adventure season is just getting started.

🚐 Premium pet care that comes to you.

One of the biggest conveniences of Zen is simple: you don't have to go anywhere.

We pick up right from home, take your dog out for their walk, run, hike, or adventure, and bring them safely back, saving our clients time, gas, and another trip across town.

Our vans are cleaned after every shift and professionally detailed every month. Keeping our vehicles and equipment clean is an important part of reducing unnecessary exposure to things like kennel cough and other contagious illnesses.

Our drivers also maintain clean driving records because when we're transporting your dogs, safety is everything.

Less running around for you. More adventure for them. 🐾

That's the Zen difference.

We didn’t build Zen to look like every other pet care company.

We built it because we knew dogs were capable of more.

More movement.
More structure.
More adventure.
More confidence.
More purpose.

Zen is a luxury canine fitness company built around one idea: give dogs an incredible life.

That might mean a structured group walk one day, a trail run the next, a hike in the foothills, off-leash exercise, socialization work, conditioning, or a private session designed around one specific dog.

We don’t use one formula for every dog.

We build the experience around the dog in front of us.

And that takes more than a leash.

It takes discipline. Experience. Fitness. Leadership. Planning. Safety systems. Transportation. Strong handling. A team that actually understands dogs. And people who are willing to get out there and do the work.

That’s the part that’s hard to copy.

You can copy a service name.

You can copy a photo.

You can even copy the idea.

But you can’t copy the years of structure, standards, relationships, experience, and heart behind it.

That’s why Zen has become something of its own.

Not just dog walking.

Not just pet sitting.

Canine fitness. Adventure. Structure. Premium care.

We’re proud to have earned recognition far beyond Boise, but the part that matters most is what happens every single day:

Dogs getting stronger.
Dogs building confidence.
Dogs finding their pack.
Dogs coming home fulfilled.

We’re not following the pet industry.

We’re helping show where it can go next. 🐾⛰️
