Happy Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week!

We're celebrating with a flashback to 2025, when Habitat leadership made the completely reasonable decision to hide hundreds of tiny ducks throughout the hospital. 🔎🦆

Our technicians work incredibly hard year-round, and we appreciate them every single day. Vet Tech Week just gives us an extra excuse to make sure they feel celebrated, appreciated, and unexpectedly delighted by tiny duck-shaped tokens of our love. 😅

Katie, Dr. Linenberger, and Dr. Maleki stayed after hours helping scatter ducks all over the hospital while Brin documented the chaos from behind the camera. 💚

(And yes… we are still finding ducks. Around here, appreciation likes to pop up when you least expect it.)

A bird feeder mishap brought us one very tiny patient. 🐦💚

This little bird was found with a leg trapped in a bird feeder, leaving them with a serious injury. They were carefully freed and brought in to see if there was anything we could do.

Dr. Lee examined the injury and determined that the damaged leg could not be saved and needed to be amputated. Fortunately, losing a leg didn't mean losing this little bird's chance to return to the wild. Birds can be remarkably adaptable, and this patient could still fly, eat, perch, and keep up with their flock.

After surgery, they spent the night with us recovering, eating, drinking, and quickly figuring out their new normal.

By the next morning, they were already adapting incredibly well and were able to return outside to stretch their wings. 💚

Miss Charlie came in for acupuncture and laser therapy with Dr. Peters.

The doggles were medically necessary. Looking this cool was all her. 😎

We don't do Employee of the Month.

We have way too many incredible humans doing very different jobs to try to pick one "best" employee every month.

Our veterinary technicians, receptionists, assistants, veterinarians, and leadership team all bring different strengths to Habitat, and great veterinary medicine takes every one of them. We would much rather celebrate people for what they contribute than rank them against each other. 💚

There is, however, one exception.

Employees with paws.

Our team has officially named Tala, Dr. Levendoski's dog, Best Employee of the Month. Every month. Every year. Apparently, the vote was not close. 😂🐾

If you're looking for a veterinary team where people are encouraged to bring their own strengths, keep learning, support each other, and occasionally participate in blatant canine favoritism, we'd love to meet you.

Otis came in for his last puppy vaccine booster, and we need everyone to look at him immediately. 🥹🤗

A little heads up Habitat Friends! 🌿

Habitat will be closed Saturday, October 10th for our Annual Team Retreat.

Once a year, we step away from the hospital together and spend a day reconnecting, recharging, and enjoying a little of the Idaho outdoors we’re lucky enough to call home.

Veterinary medicine asks a lot of the people who choose it. Taking care of our team is an important part of making sure they can continue showing up with the compassion, energy, and heart our patients deserve. Our Annual Retreat has been a Habitat tradition for more than a decade, and it’s one we’re pretty proud to protect. 💚🐾

If your pet needs anything before the weekend, please reach out to us by Friday. If your pet experiences a medical emergency while we’re closed, please contact WestVet at (208) 375-1600.
