🎃 Halloween candy is for people, not pets!

As trick-or-treating season approaches, keep those candy bowls safely out of reach. Chocolate can be toxic to dogs and cats, and products containing xylitol (also called birch sugar) can be extremely dangerous for dogs.

A few tips to keep Halloween safe:
🍫 Keep chocolate and candy stored somewhere pets cannot access.
🍬 Check ingredient labels for xylitol before leaving treats within reach.
🎃 Remind kids not to share their Halloween candy with pets.
🚨 If your pet gets into candy, contact your veterinarian or a pet poison control service right away.

A little prevention can help keep Halloween fun and safe for everyone! 🐾

Pets don't always make it obvious when they're in pain. Often, the signs are subtle and easy to mistake for changes in personality or aging.

Watch for changes like:
• Acting less interested in normal activities
• Reluctance to jump, climb stairs, or go for walks
• Changes in appetite or grooming habits
• Hiding or becoming less social
• Restlessness or difficulty getting comfortable
• Licking or chewing at a particular area
• Changes in posture, movement, or facial expression

Knowing your pet's normal behavior can make it easier to notice when something feels different. If you notice changes that persist or seem unusual, it's worth talking with your veterinarian.

Because sometimes, the quiet signs are the ones that matter most. 🐾

🐾 October is National Adopt a Dog Month!

If you’ve been thinking about adding a dog to your family, consider giving a shelter or rescue dog a second chance at a loving home. There are so many wonderful dogs waiting for their people, each with their own personality, quirks, and plenty of love to give.

Adoption is a big commitment, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. Before bringing a new dog home, make sure you’re prepared for their needs, including veterinary care, nutrition, exercise, training, and plenty of time and patience.

🎉 Birthday shoutout to our Medical Director and Hospital Director!

Their birthdays are only ONE day apart, which feels pretty crazy! We’re lucky to celebrate both of them and everything they do for our team.

They are two of our biggest supporters, always working behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly, support our team, and make sure our team feels heard and cared for.

We’re so grateful for the time, leadership, and heart they bring to State Street Veterinary Hospital every day. Help us wish them both a very happy birthday! 🥳🐾

🐾 National Pet Wellness Month! 🐾

Your pet’s health deserves attention all year long! Annual wellness exams are an important part of keeping your furry family members happy, healthy, and feeling their best. Regular checkups allow us to monitor changes in your pet’s health, catch potential concerns early, and help keep them on track with vaccines, parasite prevention, dental health, and more.

Even when your pet seems perfectly healthy, routine wellness visits help us stay ahead of potential health concerns as they age.

📅 Is your pet due for their annual wellness exam? Give us a call to schedule an appointment or set up an appointment on our website. We look forward to helping your pets live their happiest, healthiest lives! ❤️
