Worried about New World Screwworm? Your dog or cat may already be protected from it if they are on monthly Nexgard or Credelio. Other products in this Isoxazoline drug class include Bravecto, Simparica, and Revolution PLUS which have not (yet) received FDA authorization for "off label" treatment of NWS but should still give some peace of mind.

TWO MORE NEW WORLD SCREWWORM CASES - Pet Owner Alert!
A GOAT in nearby Gillespie County is the 3rd case in the US. A DOG reported by a Texas vet in Andrews County was reclassified as New Mexico's 1st case when it was found the dog resided in Lea County along the SW corner of New Mexico bordering Texas. Two other cases in Zavala County south of Uvalde between the I-35 corridor and Mexican border have been recorded in a 3-week old calf's umbilicus and in a 1 month old calf.

Guidance for Pet and Livestock Owners
USDA urges residents in these areas to inspect animals daily for:
• Draining or enlarging wounds
• Maggots or egg masses
• Signs of discomfort or irritability
• Lesions around body openings (ears, nose, ge***al area, umbilicus)
Anyone suspecting an infestation should immediately contact their veterinarian, state animal health official, or USDA. A national reporting page with contact information is available here.
