Did you know that feeding the ducks and geese at Lucchesi Pond can actually be harmful to them? 🦆

We know our community loves the birds that call Lucchesi Pond home, and feeding them can feel like a fun way to interact with them. Unfortunately, foods commonly brought to ponds — especially bread, crackers and other processed foods — don’t provide the nutrition waterfowl need and can contribute to serious health problems.

One condition associated with poor nutrition in growing ducks and geese is called “angel wing.” With angel wing, the end of the wing twists outward instead of lying normally against the bird’s body. In severe cases, the deformity can prevent the bird from flying and may become permanent if it develops as the bird grows.

Feeding waterfowl can also cause birds to congregate unnaturally, contribute to poor water quality and disease transmission, attract rodents, and change the birds’ natural behavior around people.

💙 The best way to show our Lucchesi Pond birds some love is to enjoy watching them and allow them to find their own natural food.

Please help us care for these animals by not feeding the ducks, geese or other waterfowl at Lucchesi Pond.

Love them. Watch them. Help us keep them wild and healthy. 🦆🌿

There’s something about having a dog that makes an ordinary day feel a little more special. ❤️🐶

I can walk into another room for five minutes, come back, and you’d think I had been gone for a month. 😂

The tail starts wagging.

The little feet start moving.

That face lights up like I’m the most important person in the whole world.

And honestly, there are days when I need that.

Dogs don’t care if the house is perfectly clean.

They don’t care what you’re wearing.

They don’t care how much money you have, what kind of day you had, or whether everything went according to plan.

They just want you.

Sit on the couch? Best day ever.

Go for a walk? Best day ever.

Open the refrigerator? Apparently also the best day ever. 😂

And somehow they always seem to know when you’re having a hard day.

They get a little closer.

Rest their head on your lap.

Follow you from room to room.

No questions. No advice. Just company. ❤️

I’ve had people come and go in my life, but a good dog has a way of making home feel a little warmer and loneliness feel a little smaller.

They celebrate you every single day like you’ve accomplished something wonderful just by coming through the door.

Maybe that’s why we love them so much.

To the world, you’re just one person.

But to your dog, you’re pretty much the whole world. ❤️🐾
