There’s a myth in the dog training world:

Allowing dogs to interact, play, and chase each other leads to reactivity.

Stay away from day cares and dog parks trainers shout.

But they miss the bigger picture in their half truth.

Can too much play lead to reactivity and over arousal where the dog doesn’t listen? Sure!

But the equal opposite of true as well. Limiting and withholding dog to dog interaction leads to as many if not more problems dog the road.

What dogs truly need to learn - 1st principles thinking - COMPLIANCE LEADS TO FREEDOM & FUN.

It seems simple, but it’s rarely discussed. That’s why we focus on granting dogs responsible freedom from day 1, and pairing it to compliance. Dogs get it. It’s clear. And it’s the greatest reward we can offer.

Sarabi went from hiding with her toys, to bringing them to us. How did we do it? We didn’t take her toy as soon as she brought it to us, we allowed her to keep the toy for a little bit before we interacted with it again. This showed her that we didn’t just want to steal her toy, we wanted to have fun with her, and she could have fun with us too.

What exactly is a mentor dog?

At Happy Go Lucky, our mentor dogs serve as canine role models, helping build confidence and teaching appropriate social skills during training sessions and structured pack adventures.

But even mentor dogs need a recess. These two clocked “out of office” for a solo pack date. Just time to decompress, reset, and enjoy each other’s company on the trail.
