𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐞. ❤️

This little calf stole our hearts from day one—and, ironically, his tag carried the last four digits of one of our phone numbers. We were only using three digit tags....his was a four....God knew.

Some may have let him go. We couldn’t. 𝐖𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝟐𝟒/𝟕, giving him every chance we could.

There’s a lot of marketing around beef today, and sometimes the words on the label don’t tell the whole story.
🌱 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭, 𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬.
Most calves spend the beginning of their lives alongside their mothers grazing pasture. So seeing pictures of green pastures—or simply hearing that cattle were “grass-fed”—doesn't necessarily tell you how those cattle were finished.
And finishing matters.
🌱 𝟏𝟎𝟎% 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐒-𝐅𝐄𝐃 & 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐒-𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐃
Generally means the animal remained on a forage-based diet after weaning rather than being transitioned to a grain-based finishing ration.
🌾 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍-𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐃
Here’s another important misconception:
Grain-finished does 𝐍𝐎𝐓 automatically mean feedlot-raised.
Cattle can spend their lives on pasture and still receive grain as part of their finishing program right on the ranch.
Why would a rancher choose to grain-finish?

𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 “𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫” 𝐨𝐫 “𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞” 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠. They are different production methods that create different characteristics in the finished beef.
That’s why we encourage consumers to look beyond buzzwords.
𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠:
“Is it grass-fed?”
𝐀𝐬𝐤:
“How was it raised, and how was it FINISHED?”
Those questions tell you much more about the beef you're actually buying.
