Thinking about a career in dog grooming? Let me answer a few questions that never probably crossed your mind.
Is grooming harmful to your health?
When pet hair and dander is inhaled, the tiny hairs and other harmful particles can travel down into the lung and stay there. In time this can inflame the lung lining and scar the airways, which can then progress into a chronic lung condition. We sometimes call this 'Groomers Lung'.
Is dog grooming hard on your body?
Being a groomer is a very physical job. This role often requires standing all day long, lifting a 70 lb. dog on and off the table (even the electric tables only go so low), using high velocity dryers, or sc******ng oodles of poodles – this job takes a toll on your body.
Can dog grooming cause trauma to the pet?
A change in groomer can cause a traumatic experience. Dogs become accustomed to places and people. Changes can be highly stressful to a pooch, so be aware of that when considering switching groomers.
What dog breeds should not be groomed?
Dogs such as golden retrievers, German shepherds, Siberian huskies and any dog that seasonally sheds huge clumps of fur (part of its undercoat) should never be shaved. I see this happen ALOT and it ruins the dogs coat.
Just some things to think about before you dive into this commitment.
