We enjoyed another University of Findlay Dressage Schooling Show. The IDA team did a great job.
Going to your first Horse Show is intimidating. Having to ride a different horse than you had prepared and practiced with for months, would shake up even a seasoned rider. Ella took everything in stride, and worked with her new partner Linus to ride the required Dressage tests (patterns). They performed beautifully, earning a 1st and 2nd place. Making them the Reserve Champions in their division.
Ella connected with Linus and they worked together as a team which is the true art of Equestrian Sport! Congratulations Ella and Linus. Shout out to her parents for their incredible support, Ms. Barb for behind the scenes “keeping all a the pieces together”, Kim and Donny for helping take care of the morning chores at home and then coming and helping us at the show. 🤠🥳

One of the hardest parts of running a lesson barn is retiring your lesson horses. They teach, love, and inspire so many students. Teaching empathy, bravery, leadership and more. I only had Silver “Bug” for 2 years. I wasn’t even going to keep him as a lesson horse, he was hot and a bit difficult at times. We “Me and my Students “ loved on him and showed him he was safe and he became the most beloved horse. Performing all the jobs from barrel racing to jumping and then in the same week therapeutic riding and vaulting. When he started limping, and all the x rays, shoeing adjustments and injections didn’t work, it became clear he needed to retire. Luckily one of my students has a lonely mare who needed a buddy and they clicked. We will miss him terribly and our hearts are so happy he has found another safe pasture. 🫶🤠

I saw this and couldn’t resist sharing. So often we are asked to put our head down and just do what we are told/asked without expressing how we feel; our thoughts, opinions …. If allowed, it would require our partner, boss, coach or peer to be accountable to show up and listen. They have to be vulnerable with us.
Teaching my students to treat their horse with this respect, is creating the next generation of humans who encourage, support and grow their partner. And hopefully bosses and coaches who empower their team🤠

Tackling the challenge of frozen ground and manure was not easy, but after 4 loads, we made it! 🌟 Just imagine—each horse drops 10 to 12 piles daily, and with four horses, that’s a lot of manure! A couple of times a year, we haul it away to Re: Source, neighbor gardens or spreading some across the pastures. 🐴💩
