I brace myself every time my big dog bounds toward me, knowing full well that the enthusiastic charge, the sloppy kisses, and the unstoppable tail wag will probably knock me off my feet, and even as I stumble or tumble, I can’t help but laugh through the chaos, because that pure, unfiltered joy, the way they throw their whole body into love without hesitation or restraint, is worth every bump, bruise, and moment of chaos, and lying there afterward, covered in fur and grinning, I feel nothing but gratitude for a heart so big, a love so uncontainable, and a companion so completely devoted 🐶
