Group Class was a success today! We spent the morning working on heeling, loose leash walking, sit, down, and proofing those skills around real world distractions. One of the biggest benefits of group class is giving dogs the opportunity to practice focusing and working around other dogs while still staying engaged with their handler.

To wrap things up, we played a round of Red Light, Green Light, putting our heel and sit skills to the test. Congratulations to Vigo for taking home the win! 🏆

Group Class is open to all current and past Mannered Mutts clients. Keep an eye on our page for upcoming class dates!

Hey, hi, hello. Tex here! Yes, this Tex, the 5 year old German Shepherd available for adoption from Owen County Humane Society currently living his foster era at Mannered Mutts Training in Bloomington, Indiana. I am once again opening applications for my forever home, and I would like to be very clear, I bring a lot to the table. Mostly the ball. I bring the ball back, repeatedly.

Let’s start with the obvious,
I am elite at fetch. Not casual, not “sometimes.” I am locked in. You throw it, I retrieve it like this is a job with benefits and I’m trying to get promoted. Every throw matters, and Every return is immediate. No detours, no nonsense, no “you come get it.” I have standards. We will play until your arm hurts, and you start questioning your life choices.

My personality (widely loved):
I’m super social with other dogs. I show up to group play like I was personally invited by everyone. No drama, no pickiness, just “wow more friends, this is incredible.”

I’ve lived with older kids, I’m easygoing, and I’m very into being part of whatever is happening, especially if it involves snacks, toys, or, again, throwing things for me.

Skill set
Food motivated ✔️
Toy motivated ✔️
Smart ✔️ (recently realized learning things = rewards = I am now a scholar)
Crate trained ✔️

Communication style:
Yes, I will occasionally comment on situations. A bark, a boof, a brief announcement. I am not yelling constantly, I am simply offering select, high quality observations.

Now... the past (briefly, because growth):
I came from a hoarding situation in 2022, so I didn’t exactly get a structured start. Then I had homes where I had people who were around all the time and did great, but when I was suddenly left alone with no training or transition, I made some.... bold interior design decisions. Doors were affected, drywall may have been involved. We’ve all moved on.

Important plot development:
I am now crate trained. I understand structure. I have discovered that making good choices is actually very easy when someone explains the assignment first. Shocking, I know.

What I need:
Consistency, exercise (FETCH. please keep up), and a human who understands that I am a smart dog who thrives with guidance, not a “figure it out, buddy” situation.

To conclude, I am a loyal, friendly, fetch-obsessed, moderately chatty (but respectful) German Shepherd who will:

- Be your ride-or-die
- Keep you active
- Entertain you daily
- And return the ball with the dedication of a professional athlete

Adopt me. Bring a ball. Bring backup balls. I have dedication and I’m not afraid to use it.

Miss Latte from Silver Linings Rescue stayed with us for enrichment boarding for the last few days. She is back with her foster now. She is available for adoption and looking for her forever home after her owners change in personal circumstances led them to no longer be able to take care of her. Located in Bloomington, Indiana

Latte is a 9 year old treeing walker coonhound who is easygoing and friendly. She displays exemplary manners in and out of the home, having been house trained and is well behaved indoors. She is up to date on her shots and is spayed. Contrary to the breed, she is a quiet girl except when it storms, which is easily managed with preventative medication. Every once in a while, she has a flare up of itching in between her toes, which is managed with allergy medication.

She is a sweet natured lady with lots of love to give and is being given up through no fault of her own. Her owners have taken very good care of her, even getting a routine dental done for her.

Latte is trained on basic commands (sit, stay, leave it, house) and knows when it's time to eat, walk, and sleep and seems to love her routine. This girl will thrive in the right home with structure and love. She is crate trained and loves her “house” She’s not much for playtime, but LOVES her walks and would do best in an environment where those are prioritized. She also loves gnawing on her bones.

She is good with dogs, kids and everyone else. She is a total love bug!!

If you'd like to meet this amazing girl, please contact Silver Linings Rescue at [email protected] OR ‪(812) 318-1053

ASTRO UPDATE:
Many of you know that we took in a dog from Owen County Humane Society in November to provide socialization, confidence building, and board and train to help him get adopted. Astro has been living at the shelter and looking for a home since November 2021. Thats 4 years! For most of the last three months he’s been staying with us to work on his confidence, lose weight, some fear reactivity to strangers, socialization with dogs and some basic obedience. A lot of clients have come by to volunteer their time hanging out with him doing socials with him so we could build his confidence with meeting new people so he could find his forever home. And confidence he gained! Today is the day. Astro has found his forever home. He finalized his adoption today after a foster to adopt that started over the weekend. Happy tails all! We are planing to help the shelter with another long term shelter resident starting in late March.
