Ranch fam… Gordon and I are out here competing for Most Pathetic Recovery Patient and honestly? It’s a tight race.

Gordon has been struggling the last few days with straining to p*e and just generally feeling crummy. I noticed him making a lot of trips to the litter box and have been doing very gentle bladder expressions since he has a giant abdominal incision. But then things escalated to him digging and attempting to p*e in the food bowls. Which is… bold. Even for Gordy.

Based on his bloodwork and our vet’s guidance, he’s now on antibiotics and we’ve extended his pain meds. The good news is he is currently very comfortably stoned and we plan to keep it that way for a bit while his body chills out and heals.

Meanwhile, in human disaster news…

My recovery has been rough. The sinus surgery kicked off a pretty intense Hashimoto’s flare. I expected it, but wow, rude. On top of that, I fainted during a debridement earlier this week, which did NOT help auto immune matters, and now I’ve apparently picked up a bonus cold/virus/sinus infection combo. I feel like hot garbage. Weak, rundown, and yes, a little whiny about it.

Still waiting for the “wow this surgery was worth it” moment, but I assume it’s coming. Probably right after Gordon stops stomping directly on my face.

What I DO know is that the Ranch doesn’t pause just because I’m down bad crying at the gym. Food still needs to be bought. Bills still need to be paid. Cats still need care. Normally I’m scrappy and optimistic about it, but today? Big grumpus energy.

If you haven't donated in a while, now is a really good time. Our biggest need is monetary donations and bags of cat food to keep everything running while we both recover. Visit theranchcatrescue.org/donate for all the ways to help.

And please send healing vibes to me and my chaotic little patient. We are doing our best over here. 😫😭❤️‍🩹

Checking in with an update on Gordon! Surgery went beautifully yesterday and we are happy to announce… it’s a boy!! 💙🎉💙

Dr. Soto found one testicle hanging out in his abdomen and the other tucked behind his spleen. Casual. Huge shoutout to her for her exploratory skills and for always being willing to take on our weirdest cases.

The good news: we have answers and feel confident in Gordon’s pronouns.

The not-so-great news: nothing obvious showed up with his bladder aside from it being enlarged and extra stretchy.

Which means Gordon will need bladder expressions for the rest of his life.

Now, in this house, that’s not a dealbreaker. We already have seven other cats with urinary/fecal incontinence who need daily expressions, and we’re fully set up for it. But realistically, it does make Gordon’s chances of adoption very slim. Not a lot of people can take that on and honestly, I get it.

It just means Gordy landed exactly where he was meant to be. And of course, where Gordy goes, Cornelius goes. So please join me in officially welcoming my two new sons to the family.

We’re still fundraising for Gordon’s surgery and we are so close to the finish line, about $50 to go. If you’re able to chip in and help us close that gap, we’d be incredibly grateful.

Let’s celebrate this weird, wonderful BOY 💙

April 25th is a very special day at The Ranch Cat Rescue. It's when we celebrate the birthdays of our 150+ feline residents!! 🎉🎂🥳

When a cat comes to us and we don't know their date of birth we try and estimate it using their intake date. But our default date, that we use whenever possible, is April 25th. Why? It's the perfect date. It's not too hot, it's not too cold, and all you need is a light jacket.

Help us celebrate our many many creatures today! Send them some happy vibes, kiss your own cats happy birthday for us, or send an item from our Amazon wish list that we've recently updated with lots of toys and treats.

The photos here are throwback to when my favorite foster fail celebrated his first birthday. Susan was born without an a**s and we had a very fancy one installed for him when he was a just month old. He is a miracle of science and wonder and the beginning of my specialty track in Manx Syndrome.
