Some fish room photos for this week. We’re making a lot of progress. We’ve acquired several breeding groups of high end guppies, our neocardenias are breeding like crazy, and we have tons of baby cichlids. Next I’ll be blacking out a lot of the tanks to make them more photogenic and create calmer environments for the fish, as well as setting up another 30+ tanks. Does anyone have a good recommendation for photographing fish? I’m finding it very difficult to do on my phone and I’m in desperate need of some kind of upgrade.

Setting up a Hissing Cockroach habitat is easy as 123! We use a 2-3 inch layer of soil, topped with an inch of Orchiata Orchid Bark and Sphagnum Moss, then decorate with cork bark, botanicals, live plants etc. as desired. That’s all it takes to make a visually attractive and fun-to-explore habitat for your pet. Check out our website for all of the supplies and animals needed to set up a habitat of your own!

I didn’t realize that breeding Parrot Cichlids would be as easy as just putting them in the same tank! I bought a group of 3 Platinums and wasn’t even sure they were old enough to determine if they were male or female yet, and I found that out pretty quick. Mom and dad laid a small spawn of eggs after being in the shop for only a few days and they’re doing a great job so far.

Poor Lily girl. She had a growth on her eyelid and needed surgery to remove it. They ended up taking about a third of her eyelid off and had to stitch it back together. She did great though and now she will be able to see a lot better without the growth blocking her vision. She slept a lot yesterday after the surgery, and is not enjoying the cone at all, but she’s already getting back to her usual self.

Noah caught his first bass the other day while learning to cast one of my spinning rods (told him it’s time to put away the kiddie rod). We were catching bluegills left and right, but this little guy was in the mix too. It’s no lunker by any stretch of the imagination, but he was super excited when he realized he had a different type of fish on the line, and was able to catch it all on his own. Proud dad moment. It seems he is starting to like fishing more as he grows, and I can’t wait to go a lot more with him in the future.

It’s always fun coming across the oldest monster hissers in our colonies while cleaning and picking orders. I can never bring myself to part with the biggest ones because it takes a few years to grow them this big, and I like to keep them as pets rather than sell them. Today we shipped out a 125 count order of big males to a regular customer in California. It’s sad to see these ones go, but it’s all part of the business, and we’re grateful they’re being used for research purposes.

Just a few photos from our Tennessee trip a couple weeks ago. We had a nice time taking the boys to visit Maleeva’s dad, his wife, and Maleeva’s sister. They all got to finally meet baby Rowan. We had a couple fun days in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, and my favorite part of the trip was the Knoxville Zoo. Couldn’t believe I finally got to see a Komodo Dragon in real life. After all of the years I’ve been into reptiles, and all of the different zoos and events I’ve been to, it’s nice to check that one off the list.

Our badis are settling in and starting to display lots of interest in each other. After getting back into fish keeping a few months ago, they have grown to become one of my favorite species. I’m hoping to see some spawning happening soon!

Brought home a group of Polar Blue Parrot Cichlids a few weeks ago and they’re already on their second spawn and learning to be great parents. After the first spawn I removed the other fish from the tank and left the parents to care for the fry, but I think the stress caused them to give up and none of the babies made it. This time around they’re doing a much better job and the babies are starting to explore the tank.
