Sully did some self desensitizing yesterday šŸ˜… Him and Scout thought it would be a good idea to reach into Vogues pen and take the tarp out. Scout didn’t really care, but Sully just kept coming back and scaring himself with it šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

Another tarp day for Vogue and she did awesome! We only had one spook where she scooted out from under the tarp at the beginning, and then did great and let me open it all the way up with no problem. We also worked on flexing, backing, walking at my shoulder, following the lead around her hind quarters, moving around me in a circle, and dropping her head lower when asked. We definitely could be further than we are right now, but I’m not in a huge rush and we have plenty of timeā£ļø

The was only about 10 minutes after introducing the tarp šŸ˜ Vogue didn’t mind the noise or it being over her back. The hard part for her was when the wind would pick it up and move it when I wasn’t standing at her side. At the end of the session, she stayed calm when the wind moved it a couple of times, so we ended there.

Vogue is such a nice looking mare, even when standing awkwardly šŸ˜ She got her halter caught on the gate last night and broke it (I always use breakaways when unattended for this very reason), so this morning, I worked with her for a little bit and got her haltered and caught in 40 minutes (ended up flipping the halter inside out to tie it from the right, since she wouldn’t allow me on her left, and it took less than 5 minutes after that). Tonight, I caught her in just a couple of minutes and was able to get it tied correctly (from the left), so I was super happy with the progress! She also learned how to pick up a foot, lead by a foot, stand for the rope to be flung over her from either side, and how to flex both directions. She did great with everything and picked up on it all super quickly!

3rd leading session for Vogue and she did incredible! She stood for me to brush both sides of her body, untangle her mane (again), brush her forelock, fly spray her, switch her into a smaller halter, and throw my rain jacket over her! I’m so happy with how well she did and how much more confident she’s getting ā¤ļø

There was no rides between this video and the last video I posted of Scout, from Monday, learning how to carry himself. Session #2 working on headset/collection, and he’s really putting it all together! I am used to how him and Raven usually carry themselves, so it felt like he was holding his head super low, but I realized after watching this video back that he was actually pretty level šŸ˜†

Two of the coolest mustangs around 🤩

Mabel has only been ponied twice and Scout has never ponied another horse before, but they both acted like pros! I don’t think there is any other 3yo who I would trust to pony another horse with less than 30 rides 🫶

She finally has a name…

Introducing ā€˜Triple B’s Scars To Your Beautiful’ aka ā€˜Vogue’. I think the meaning of this song fits her perfectly, and I don’t want her to be defined by her scars, as they don’t affect the potential she has. Today, she let down her guard quite a bit and let me detangle and brush out her entire mane! I know some people like to braid them after they are detangled but I’m always worried they will get caught in something šŸ˜… The flies have been eating her alive so I also introduced fly spray, and she figured it out pretty quick! We aren’t to the point of being ready for a fly mask yet so I just did some fly roll on for her face to try and keep the flies out of her eyes, and so far, that seems to be working super well!
