Today we celebrate some of the most intelligent, colorful, entertaining, and mischievous creatures on the planet — PARROTS!

Did you know?
🦜 There are nearly 400 species of parrots worldwide.
🦜 Some parrots can live 50+ years, with larger species often outliving their owners.
🦜 Parrots have the intelligence of a young child and need daily enrichment, socialization, and mental stimulation.
🦜 Wild parrots play an important role in their ecosystems by dispersing seeds and helping forests regenerate.
🦜 Many parrot species are threatened by habitat loss and the illegal pet trade.

Here at A Helping Wing, we’re lucky to share our lives with parrots of all shapes, sizes, personalities, and opinions. From the loud flock members who make sure everyone knows they’re awake, to the shy birds who quietly watch from the sidelines, every bird has a unique story and deserves a chance at a safe, loving future.

Goodmorning from AHW and happy Saturday! I just got done spicing up some brown rice for the chop I'm doing later today. Cayenne pepper, cinnamon, ginger, and turmeric. Who else adds spices to their chop?!

It’s me, P7.

As many of you know, I’m one of the famous (or infamous) AHW spitfires. I’ve come a long way since arriving at the rescue, but I’ve learned some very important things during my time here:

1. Nuts are delicious.
2. Toys are meant to be destroyed.
3. Bedtime lullabies are mandatory.
4. The humans are always buying stuff for us.

Apparently, caring for a flock of parrots isn’t free. I was shocked by this news because I assumed everything magically appeared.

Excuse me. Hi. Yes. It’s me, Sasha the nanday conure, and I would just like everyone to know that I am the perfect mix of sweet angel baby and tiny feathered menace. 💚✨
One minute I’m giving kisses and snuggling like the world’s cutest little avocado… and the next minute I’m screaming because someone DARED to eat chips without sharing. The audacity honestly.
And let’s talk about food for a second. I would absolutely do anything for snacks. ANYTHING. You got a cracker? I’m your best friend. A grape? I’m prepared to commit crimes for it. Pellets? Fine. But if you open a bag of treats, suddenly I can hear from three rooms away like a feathery FBI agent. 👀
People say I’m sassy, but I prefer the term ‘dramatically adorable.’ If I want attention, everyone should obviously stop what they’re doing immediately. That’s just basic customer service.
Also, if you’re eating and I slowly waddle over while pretending not to look at your plate… mind your business. I’m conducting important snack inspections.

Sad day at A Helping Wing today. 💔

Helen of Troy, our adopted guinea pig, passed away today. Helen had been dealing with some medical issues and had started slowing down over the last few weeks. While our hearts are heavy, we are thankful she got to experience love, snacks, cozy blankets, and being spoiled by everyone here at the rescue.

Tiny but mighty, Helen made a big impact on all of us and will be greatly missed. Sleep peacefully sweet girl. 🌈
