Have a dog that needs to brush up his leash skills before summer? Or a dog that has some leash reactivity towards things on a walk, like people, dogs, bikes or cars for example? I will be hosting a leash clinic at Jensen Grove in Blackfoot on Sunday April 24th at 3:00pm. We will go over how to maintain control of your dog, keep their attention on you and work towards that loose leash walk that everyone wants.
This clinic may last a couple of hours. This will be a large group class. To gain a spot in the clinic, you can message me or give me a call. (208)647-1975. The cost of this class will be $25 😀.

Canine Instinct does offer boarding while you’re away for vacation or gone for a quick weekend. They get to experience lots of activity and receive lots of attention. A much different experience than being locked in a kennel while you’re away.

Little Lexie here, like most dogs really dislikes getting a bath. Though you may never get your dog to be super stoked about getting bathed, with positivity and training consistency you can get a dog that is easy to bathe.

Get your kids involved!
The full responsibility of dog training should still remain with adults, but the kiddos shouldn’t be completely left out of the process. Show them how to do simple things. If they are apart of some of the obedience training, that will help strengthen the bond and respect between puppy/dog and child.
Here I was taking simple commands that Lexie already knew and understood completely and had my 6 year old take the reins on it. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but they both still got the desired result in the end.
Children sound different and generally give off a different energy than adults, so getting your dog conditioned to taking commands/direction from children will create better structure in the house and could play a role in safety. Please always supervise children when they are around/working with dogs 😊

PREVENTION IS KEY!!!
Wait what??!!

Yes, you heard that right.

When getting a new puppy, prevention of unwanted behaviors is the golden key to most things in early training.

Don’t want your nice pillows chewed on? Keep them away from puppy.
Don’t want your rug or shoes chewed up? Keep them away from puppy.
Don’t want your beautiful but possibly toxic plants chews on? Keep them away from puppy.

See the pattern?
This is where an Xpen/playpen comes in. A spot in your home where your puppy can stay when being unsupervised. It’s also a good training tool to give a nice quiet area to entertain himself in without getting into trouble. One of our training sessions in the upcoming puppy classes will be going over this and why it’s a good idea for your puppy! Sign up for classes by March 2nd!!! Can’t wait!

Social time is one of my favorite times with my dogs I have here for day training. It offers them a great chance to socialize as dogs are intended to do while being supervised to ensure the socializing continues to go well. This is also a great opportunity for puppies to understand small social cues from adult dogs to set them up for success as they get older.
