๐Ÿด Myth or Fact? White hooves are weaker than dark hooves in horses.
โœ… Answer: Myth!
Hoof color does not determine hoof strength. Research and farrier experience show that a horse's hoof quality is influenced by factors such as genetics, nutrition, environment, and hoof care, not whether the hoof is light or dark in color.

๐Ÿด Why Brooming Beats Leaf Blowing in the Barn Aisle ๐Ÿงน
Keeping a barn clean is essential, but how we clean matters just as much as the result. While leaf blowers may seem like a quick solution, they can stir up large amounts of dust, mold spores, bedding particles, and other airborne debris that can impact both horse and human respiratory health.
When you broom the aisle, much of the dust and debris can be collected and removed rather than blasted into the air. This helps:
โœ… Reduce airborne dust particles

โœ… Create a healthier breathing environment for horses

โœ… Lower exposure to allergens, mold spores, and irritants for barn staff and riders

โœ… Support horses with respiratory conditions such as heaves (equine asthma)

โœ… Keep dust from settling back onto stalls, feed, tack, and water buckets
Horses spend much of their time in the barn, and their respiratory systems are highly sensitive to dust and airborne contaminants. Every effort to minimize dust exposure can contribute to better lung health, improved performance, and overall well-being.
The next time you're cleaning the barn aisle, consider reaching for a broom instead of a blower. It may take a little more effort, but cleaner air is a benefit both horses and humans can breathe easier about.

๐ŸŒพ First Cutting vs. Second Cutting Hay: What's the Difference?
Not all hay is created equal! First cutting hay is typically coarser, higher in fiber, and lower in calories, while second cutting hay is usually softer, leafier, and often contains more energy and protein.
The best hay for your horse depends on more than just what looks good in the bale. Your horse's body condition score, age, workload, metabolic status, and overall nutritional needs should all be considered when choosing forage.
๐Ÿด If you're unsure which hay is right for your horse, consult your veterinarian. They can help determine the best feeding program to support your horse's health, weight, and performance.
