Well, the North Dakota Sporting Spaniel Club held it's annual weekend hunt test this weekend. It was a fun event, we had some failure, but most of that was of my not liking what I was seeing. We also had some success. My old girl refused to cross the water on day one, then broke on her 3rd missed bird on day two. She had a blast and as a punishment for breaking today she got to eat earlier than the other dogs.

FC Blackbrier's Belle Pepper. She will be 11 in July. She nice and steady, but things are a little.different when the gun goes BOOM! BOOM sounds like Belle! Hoping to get her through another master hunt test soon. If they could have a Senior-Master i think she could squeak through it.

Watch the dog!!! This simple drill has endless opportunities for achieving balance while maintaining confidence in the dog. As we progress, we will add different concepts and commands to it. The process is exactly the same, but may differ slightly in set-up, and we will be looking for slighly different behavior from the dog before being rewarded. This video is a simple version of Go Away, Come To, and Sit(the only things your gun dog needs to know). Like anything dogs, if you focus too much on balance, you risk confidence. If you curb the confidence you may lose the opportunity for balance. That being said, dont be afraid to test them.
