If you’re seeing bullsnakes around Beulah Bay, they’re actually one of the best “neighbors” to have around a campground and lake area.

Here are a few interesting facts:

* Bullsnake are nonvenomous and harmless to people.
* They help keep rodent populations under control by eating mice, voles, rats, and even gophers.
* They can grow 4–6 feet long, making them one of the longest snakes in the northern Great Plains.
* When frightened, they may flatten their head, hiss loudly, vibrate their tail, or strike defensively. These behaviors are meant to scare predators away—they’re not a sign the snake is venomous.
* Bullsnakes are excellent climbers and burrowers and often use abandoned rodent tunnels.

How to protect bullsnakes

* Give them space. If you see one, let it move away on its own.
* Never try to kill or handle one. Most bites happen when people attempt to pick up or corner a snake.
* Keep dogs leashed if you know a snake is nearby.
* Leave natural areas like rock piles, prairie grasses, and burrows undisturbed when possible.
* If a bullsnake wanders into a high-traffic area, encourage it to leave by giving it a clear escape route rather than trying to trap it.

Bullsnakes are an important part of North Dakota’s ecosystem. They naturally reduce pests around farms, campgrounds, and lakes, making them valuable wildlife to have around.

Today is Bring Your Snake to Work Day! 🐍
I don't actually know if that's a thing, but I have declared it for the day! 😂
This Hognose snake is always so excited to eat anything and everything in sight. So when she's close to laying her eggs, I can't risk taking my eyes off her. 🥚 👀

We are headed to MN this weekend for the Cold Blooded Expo. If you're in the area on Sunday, check it out!
Store will be closed Saturday.

See you in Minneapolis this Sunday June 7th!! We will be at the MN State Fair Grounds North End Event Center. We will have a great variety of reptiles, feeders and supplies. Tickets Do Not sell out. You can pay via credit card or cash at the door (there is a discount using cash). VIP entry starts at 9am and can also be purchased the day of the show at the admission booth.
